Abraham Lincoln
was the first President of the United States to be assissated. Slightly
after 10:00 pm on April 14, 1865, John Wilkes Booth snuck into the President's

At the same time his work was building
up, his office became a catastrophe. Lincoln shared a small one room
office with Joshua Stuart, and neither one of them had any capability of
filing and organizing. As a result when Lincoln's work increased,
his office became a mess and he lost all types of important documents.
It got so bad that in his office Lincoln piled a bunch of papers in the

All of America
knows that Booth is the one who killed our countries Sixteenth President,
but what people don't know is the different theories historians and experts
have been arguing about this conspiracy to assassinate the leader of those
"Damn Yankees." Many ideas have been thrown out into the world about
his crime such as Lincoln's Vice President Andrew Johnson was a mastermind
in this conspiracy. Maybe even Secretary of War Edwin Stanton took
part in the coverup of this murder by placing the blame on the Southern
Sucessionists. But the two most argued conpriacy theories are the
murder being a simple conspiracy, or the murder being a grand Confederate
conspiracy. William Hanchett's The Lincoln Murder Conpiracies
provides the arguments of both theorists as well as his own opinion on
Lincoln, George S. Bryan's Great American Myth spoke of the murder
as a single conspiracy, and Otto Eisenschiml's In The first visible case of
depression.
Mary Owens was a beautiful
women in the early 1830s. During this time she was traveling back
and forth from Kentucky to New Salem where Lincoln lived. In 1834
Lincoln swore that he would marry Owens the next time she returns.
From the time between her departure from New Salem in 1834 and her arrival
in 1836 Lincoln no longer wanted to wed Mary Owens. Perhaps this
is because between this time he moaor="#FF7A00">Simple
Conspiracy: By stating that
the assassination of Lincoln was a simple murder conspiracy it's saying
that the assassination was done by Booth and the help from his close friends.
John Wilkes Booth was a Copperhead, a northerner who opposed the War and
believed they were the true citizens of the United States. Booth
was an extreme Anti-Lincoln and Pro-Confederacy activists. During
the Civil War Booth acted as a smuggler and spy for the Confederate Army.
After the reelection of Lincoln in 1864 Booth and company orinigally plotted
to kidnap Lincoln, but by the day of April 14, that plot of kidnap turned
to murder. Late in 1864 Booth left for Canada to meet with
other conpirators, but before leaving he left a letter with his sister
Asia which stated, "This country was formed for the white, not the black
man . . . African slavery . . . I have ever considererd it one of the greatest
blessings that God ever bestowed upon a favored nation.lack hatr="#FFA000">ACY

"Sic Semper Tyrannis!" Booth proclaimed as he jumped out of the bsin at Ford's Theater accompanied
by his wife and General Ulysses S. Grant and his wife.
The other conspirators
included George Atzerodt, who owned a boat which would be used for escape;
David Herold, who knew the streets and alleys of Washington; Lewis Paine,
a Confederate veteran; John and Mary Surratt whom John helped Booth diagram
his plan; Samuel Arnold adn Michael O'Laughlin, both who served in the
Confederate Army aswell and worked as spies. At the same time Lincoln
was being killed, Grant, Secretary of State William Seward and hopefully
Secretary of War Edwin Stanton were to be assassinated as well. Major
Rathbone went in the place of Grant because Grant missed the train and
the hatred between wives, so once Booth got into the President's box it
was just Lincoln he was to kill. While Lincoln was martyred fellow
conspirator Paine was at the Seward home attempting to kill the Sectretary
of State. Hanchett gave a great description about the murder attempt
when he wrote, "He rushed into Sewards room, pushed aside a male nurse,
jumped on the sickbed, and began to slash Seward about his face and neck
with a large knife. When the nurse and another of Seward's sons attempted
to pull him away, he stabbed them with his knife, broke away and ran downstairs."
At the time Seward was lying in bed recovering from a carriage accident
and Stanton was thought to be by his bedside when Paine entered the home.
Seward was not killed. Atzerdot's assignment was to kill Vice President
Johnson, but he did not go through with his assignment.
Eight conspirators
were sentenced in court for the Lincoln conspiracy. Mrs. Surratt,
Paine, Atzerdot, and Herold wer sentenced to be hung. Arnold, O'Laughlin,
and Mudd to life imprisonmetn, and Edman Spangler was sentenced to six
years in prison for helping Booth escape.
