Station Two:  Thomas Whitson

Thomas Whitson:  a farmer.  He was very involved in hiding many slaves.  He was always coming up with ideas to get the fugitives away safely.  He formed the Declaration of Principles which is an organization to help fugitives along the Underground Railroad.

Whitson Family:  They never talked to the slaves, particuarly the children.  Thomas was scared they would ask too many questions and spread the word throughout the community that they housed fugitive slaves.  But the family helped give each slave supplies for survival.

Weather:  Being in Lancaster County, at this time it was in the middle of the winter.  It snowed earlier that day, and was very cold.

Whitson Neighbors:  They found out about Thomas Whitson housing slaves so the slaves are in danger of being recaptured by their slave master.  What should they do?
