About the SHARP Team
Millersville University's Office of Undergraduate Admissions employs a team of students to help admissions recruit prospective students. Students Helping Admissions Recruit Prospects (SHARP) Team members consist of:
Event Staff. We have 30 Event Staff. Members of the SHARP Event Staff participate in major Admissions events, including Open Houses, Marauder for a Day, and the Admitted Student Expo. Individuals on the Event Staff do not conduct campus tours during the week. No GPA minimum. Rate $7.25/hr.
Tour Guides. We have 20 Tour Guides. Tour guides are responsible for representing Millersville University by giving campus tours, helping with major events (Open House/Marauder for a Day/Expo) and providing office support. Tour guides may also have other tasks, such as making melt calls, assembling registrant folders, helping with event preparations, and other duties as assigned. GPA minimum, 2.0, Rate $7.65/hr.
Student Ambassadors (SAs). We have 10 Student Ambassadors. SAs are members of the team that have additional responsibilities outside of giving campus tours. SAs assist with staff selection, help with training, organize social events (e.g., game night, The Office trivia, etc.), represent MU at college fairs, work on projects as assigned by the GA and/or LSAs, and are assigned a leadership role for major events. SAs are great resources for new SHARPies, as well as returners, and are well-versed in SHARP policies and procedures. Our SA team changes each semester, but you can tell who is a SA by who is wearing a grey polo. Staff must be in good standing after completing their first semester as a Tour Guide to apply. GPA minimum, 2.5/Rate $8.15.Lead Student Ambassadors (LSAs). We have 5 Lead Student Ambassadors. Each LSA oversees a team of tour guides & SAs. This distinguished leadership position involves the planning major events, development of training curriculum, leading trainings and team meetings, handling conflicts, maintaining shift coverage, and strengthening the quality of the campus visit program. Your LSA is your best resource when you have questions, concerns, ideas about how to improve our program, or if you want to know how you can improve in your role. Student Ambassadors can apply to be an LSA after one semester of being a Student Ambassador in good standing. GPA minimum, 2.75/Rate $8.65/hr.
What to Expect
Each SHARP Team member receives comprehensive training before giving campus tours. Hours are flexible and students are paid at an hourly rate. In addition to the Graduate Assistant, each tour guide also has a Lead Student Ambassador (LSA) who can help answer questions and provide leadership opportunities.
