About the Exhibition ...

Origins is a body of work dedicated to the beginning of storytelling in human history.  There are four stories present in the gallery focusing on each of the four elements: Fire, Water, Earth, and Air.  Each element is described through a depiction of Greek Mythologies.  Fire is represented by a myth of Prometheus, water by the creation of Aphrodite, earth depicts Kronos within the depths of Tartarus, and air shows the story of Icarus.  These stories are depicted on canvas and within shadow boxes placed hanging above a figure.  The figure of the storyteller is shown to be weaving the stories depicted in canvas, taking inspiration from the shadow boxes above them.  Storytelling is a tradition that has been passed down through art and word of mouth for thousands upon thousands of years and through many civilizations.  Every story can be inspired by other cultures and traditions, just as the storyteller in this show takes their inspiration from the boxes to depict their variation on the tales.
