Vilas A. Prabhu Center for Academic Excellence Faculty Fellows
Faculty Fellows 2022-2023
The Vilas A. Prabhu Center for Academic Excellence and the Associate Provost for Academic Administration are pleased to announce 2022-2023 CAE Faculty Fellows positions. This program will support faculty working through course transformations and DEI focused course transformations.
Faculty interested in serving as a CAE Faculty Fellow or DEI Champion Faculty Fellow will submit proposals to transform and study a course they teach Fall 2022. Their transformation work will be supported by the Vilas A. Prabhu Center for Academic Excellence and the I&TS Instructional Designers.
Each fellowship will hold a term of one year, will include active participation in CAE programming, and will result in publication or presentation based on the work completed. Course transformations may be collaborative, but no more than two fellows may be appointed to a single course.
At the end of each semester, each fellow must submit a program assessment report to be reviewed by the CAE coordinator and Associate Provost for Academic Administration.
Each fellow will receive up to $500 in professional development funds, to be used in support of their project.
Course Transformations and Student Impact:
Faculty interested in serving as a Faculty Fellow will engage with course transformation and Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) research work.
CAE Faculty Fellows course transformations can and should include
- pedagogical or curricular innovation
- implementation of new course materials to improve teaching and learning
- the implementation of new course tools to improve teaching and learning
- the implementation of new assessment practices
- and/or other elements of course transformation.
DEI Champions Faculty Fellows course transformations will include some combination of the following:
- Decolonizing the course syllabus
- Adopting OER materials, especially OER materials from diverse perspectives and authors
- Building course materials to focus on Universal Design for Learning
- Developing and implementing antiracist assessment practices
These partnerships allow the CAE to create space to connect Strategic Direction 3 “Invest strategically in people and place” with Strategic Directions 1 and 2 “ensure access, affordability and completion” and “transform student experiences and foster innovation”. Continuing to support faculty beyond initial course transformation through teaching and scholarly work helps participating faculty members understand, discuss, and report on student impact of their pedagogical transformations. The CAE is developing these partnerships and creating this space to provide faculty professional development that supports faculty in course transformations that collect and assess student success within those changes.
