Multi-Modal Training Resources
These video resources were created to support faculty at Millersville transitioning to Multi-Modal Teaching. Some were created to support the transition to remote during Spring 2020, others were created to support online synchronous, online asynchronous, and hybrid-flex teaching modalities Fall 2020. These training materials represent the collaborative effort of the CAE, disciplinary collaborators, and I&TS especially the I&TS Instructional Designers.
Fall 2020 Preparation Materials
To help prepare for Fall 2020 multi-modal teaching, the I&TS Instructional Designers created on-demand instructional materials to support good pedagogical approaches to online content. The Instructional Designers, CAE Interim Director, and CAE Disciplinary Collaborators created videos to support faculty working through the training materials. Recordings and training materials can be found using the link below.
Fall 2020 Preparation Materials
During the weeks of August 10th-14th, August 31st - September 8th, and September 14th - 18th the Disciplinary Collaborators will host Q&A focused around specific pedagogical practices for Fall 2020. This is a chance for faculty to meet with faculty to work through classroom approaches. Details forthcoming.
A/Synchronous Online Learning Assessment
Dr. Emily Baldys, a CAE Disciplinary Collaborator, discusses how to transition formative assessment techniques to socially distanced hybrid-flex classroom modalities, and synchronous online classroom modalities. She focuses on commonly used formative assessment techniques like polls and think-pair-share to help faculty draw from familiar strategies in new modalities.
Dr. Ankur Nandedkar, a CAE Disciplinary Collaborator, discusses how to formative assessment techniques in synchronous and asynchronous online classroom modalities. He focuses on commonly used formative assessment techniques like think-pair-share and 2 stars and a wish to help faculty draw from familiar strategies in new modalities. Ankur also focuses on ways of using formative assessment with breakout sessions in zoom, and outside tools like polls.
Dr. Lesley Colabucci, a CAE Disciplinary Collaborator, discusses how to create space for rich discussion, when we don't have face-to-face classes. These tips and ideas are incredibly helpful for adjusting discussion building discussions to meet learning outcomes, formative assessment, and student interaction.
Dr. Heather Lehman, a CAE Disciplinary Collaborator, discusses how to create community using discussion boards, how students react differently in discussion than face-to-face courses.
Dr. Heather Lehman's second video focuses on mixing learning resources and connecting those to formative assessment practices in the classroom.
Dr. Ankur Nandedkar's second video presents ideas for keeping student presentations manageable in online learning.
Dr. Jess Hughes' second video explores multimodality for accessibility in course design.
