Six Steps to Certification

Note: For Endorsement Students 


New Login Process for TIMS

Effective December 19, 2019 students will need to register a Keystone Login account and use that to log in to MyPDESuite.

The first time that you log in, you will be directed to a registration page where you will establish your TIMS profile - this will connect your login to your certification records.

  • Timeline for Certification

    Before the start of Student Teaching

    • Take Content Area Tests (This is only a recommendation.)
      You do not need to take the tests in order to student teach,and you can take the tests after you student teach.
    • Coursework completion-make sure your Degree Audit is complete with the exception of student teaching.  
    Mid-Semester After Student Teaching Seminar
    • Create PPID #
    • Fill out MU Request to Recommend

    End of Semester

    • Take Survey
    • Finish TIMS application

     A more detailed timeline will be provided at the First Day Meeting.

  • 1. Tests
    • Basic Skills TestsUndergraduates only -- (Post-Bac students do not need them).
      1. SAT or ACT scores are reported to PDE by MU. If your Degree Audit says “Pre-Service Tests Unverified” under APS, please contact the Certification Office to make sure we have official scores on file.
      2. Praxis, PAPA, & PPST-should show up in your test dashboard in the TIMS application.
    • Content Area Tests -
      1. If you have taken the tests and it said “not passed,” check the GPA sliding scale before taking the test again.

    • Keep a copy of your test scores-You never know when you might need them again.
  • 2. Program Completion

    Completing the Program -

    • Undergraduate Students:  You will not be able to receive your recommendation for certification from Millersville University until your undergraduate degree is awarded. All courses (even if it is for a minor or honors) must be completed successfully. 
    • Post-Bac Students:  Check your Degree Audit and/or the Course Requirement Sheet you received with your admissions packet. Millersville University will not be able to recommend you until all required course work is completed.
    • ALL Students:  Both PDE 430s MUST be on file for undergraduate and post-bac students.
  • 3. Creating Your PPID # in TIMS

    Go to TIMS Log In to register and receive your PPID number.

  • 4. MU Request to Recommend Form
    Fill out the MU Request for Recommendation form.  This form provides information needed to recommend you for certification.
    • You will need your PPID number from the TIMS application
    • If you are unsure of your test scores, you should be able to log back into your Praxis or PECT account.
    • Provide the address where you will be at after the end of the semester.
  • 5. Completing Your TIMS Application

    Application is $200

    These two guides should be able to answer most of your questions.

    NOTE:  Your coversheet may say you need “PPST testing” or PAPA scores.  You do not. 

    The PA Department of Education (PDE) is the only one who can see your application before you pay.  If you feel you made an error or need someone to look at your application, you must contact PDE directly.

  • 6. Take the Survey

    The link to the survey will be emailed to you towards the end of your student teaching semester.  Please take a few minutes to complete the survey.

  • Add-ons

    PDE Requirement Change:  As of September 1, 2019, students must submit a separate application for Add-Ons.

    PLEASE NOTE: You will not be able to submit an application for an add-on until PDE receives and reviews your initial Instructional I recommendation from Millersville.
