McCaskey Tornado Career Corps
What is the Tornado Career Corps and AmeriCorps?
McCaskey Tornado Career Corps was a three year AmeriCorps VISTA project (2016-2019), through Campus Compact of New York & Pennsylvania (CCNYPA), designed to combat poverty by increasing students' access to higher education. Millersville University's Experiential Learning and Career Management (ELCM) was the host site of an AmeriCorps VISTA project to build and strengthen the University's partnership with the School District of Lancaster.
Millersville students were selected and trained to serve as Career Corps Educators. The Career Corps Educators provided services to students enrolled at the McCaskey High School Campus, the Lancaster Cyber Program, Phoenix Academy and the Lancaster Partnership Program (LPP). They worked with students individually and in small groups by mentoring student participants in externship/job shadow experiences and leading workshops, panels and presentations on college and career readiness.
