PA State Grant Eligibility Requirements

Am I eligible for the PA State Grant?

In order to be considered for a PA State Grant you must first complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). A Pennsylvania State Grant is based on financial need; however, you must also meet other requirements to qualify for the PA State Grant Program:

      • For Pennsylvania, the deadline is MAY 1. Applications received after this deadline may not be considered for the PA State Grant.
      • Be a Pennsylvania resident for at least 12 consecutive months immediately preceding the filing date of the FAFSA application (exclusive of any period of time the student spent while enrolled in a Pennsylvania postsecondary education institution).
      • Be a graduate of an approved high school or have a GED.
      • Meet criteria for financial need.
      • Attend a PHEAA approved school.
      • Be enrolled for at least six credits as an undergraduate student.
      • Be enrolled in an approved program of study of at least two academic years in length.
      • Earn, through classroom instruction, at least 50% of the total credit hours required for completing the program of study.
      • Maintain satisfactory academic progress (as defined by PHEAA).
      • Not have previously earned a bachelor's degree or its equivalent.
      • Not be in default or have a claim of default pending on an educational loan (or awards converted to loans), guaranteed or reinsured by the federal government, state government or institution. This also applies to programs where awards have been converted to loans due to failure to meet all eligibility or service requirements.

Note: The PA State Grant is available for a maximum of eight semesters to students enrolled in a four-year program.

Why isn't my PA State Grant listed on my Award Letter?

Millersville University must be listed as your school choice on your State Grant application in order for you to receive the PA State Grant at our school. Only one school will receive PA State Grant information to list on your award letter. If you plan to attend Millersville University and have listed another school as your school choice, you will need to update your State Grant application to have your information sent to Millersville.

You can update your school choice by:

      • Online at  
          • You will need to log in if you already have a username and password with AES or PHEAA. If you do not have one, create an account with a username and password. 
          • Once you have logged into your account, select the current academic year under "Grant Status." Then select the "Change School Information Form" and then complete the information and submit the form. *Please note: This change only adjusts the PHEAA Grant record and not the FAFSA.
      • Calling PHEAA directly at 1-800-692-7392 (say "grants" at the voice response system).
