Short-term English Programs
Millersville University hosts a number of 2-8 week, short-term English programs every winter and summer through its English Language Institute (ELI). The ELI welcomes international students to study on our small and safe campus, here in historical Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. Short-term programs offer the opportunity to take Academic English Preparation Program or American Culture Immersion Program. Students will also visit local organizations and businesses, engage in service learning opportunities and make weekend visits to local and regional landmarks.

Standard Program
Intensive English
This program is designed for students who would like to participate in our rigorous, academic English program, but are not able to attend for a full 14 week (Fall & Spring) or 10 week (Summer) session. This short term program is focused on improving listening, reading, writing, speaking, pronunciation and grammar. This program runs during the summer and is 15 hours per week. It can range from 2-8 weeks. Participants are expected to have at minimum of intermediate English language skills.
Customized Programs
College Immersion
This 3-week college immersion program is designed for international high school students who are non-native speakers. The program is designed to prepare students for applying to an American university. Students will meet with admissions counselors and learn about the college application process. Participants will have approximately four college campus visits, while also getting the opportunity to explore Lancaster and area attractions. Students must be 15 years old or higher.
English for Specific Purposes
This 4-week program will enhance cross-cultural communication skills of participants. They will have the opportunity to gain specialized vocabulary in business, health sciences, STEM professions, and other fields. Participants will have the opportunity to visit and observe community partners and businesses. This program can be customized based on participant needs.
School Administrator Program
This professional development program is meant for K-12 and university-level school administrators, as well as independent consultants. Participants will gain insight into U.S. college administration, including student and academic affairs, and other daily operations and challenges of a school campus. This program can be customized based on participant needs.
Teacher Training
In this unique program, teachers will get the opportunity to improve English language skills by participating in language teaching seminars focusing on second language acquisition theories. They will observe TESOL-trained instructors and gain new strategies necessary to teach English in a non-native context.
Test Preparation
In this program, test-takers may improve their score on English language and other exams, such as TOEFL, IELTS, GRE, or GMAT, by learning test-taking strategies and techniques. The strategies presented are designed to assist students in completing the exam in a timely fashion and achieving better results.
Customized Programs
The ELI offers customized, short-term English programs for groups of 6 or more participants. Cost for programs vary based on customizations and number of participants. Program fees include airport transportation to and from our campus, comprehensive orientation and reception, lodging and meals, 15 hours of instruction per week, required study materials, some cultural excursions and a farewell reception.
