Entrepreneurial Leadership Center

About the Center

“Millersville University is the best choice for people of Pennsylvania and beyond who are motivated to apply their native intelligence and a world-class education to the challenging and important work of guiding themselves, their families and their communities through times of changing opportunity. “ One of the primary missions of MU is to continue to contribute to regional economic development by increasing human capital whose skills and talents convey tangible productivity and income benefits in the region.

The Entrepreneurial Leadership Center (ELC) at Millersville University (MU) is committed to encouraging innovation and creating entrepreneurial opportunities by linking MU with a network of community and business partners and promoting entrepreneurial activities by students and other members of the MU community. The two primary goals of the ELC at MU are:

  • Equipping MU faculty members to teach entrepreneurial thinking and skills to graduate and undergraduate students to encourage them to consider self-employment as an economically viable work option.
  • Enhancing MU’s ability to promote the economic development capacity of south central Pennsylvania. To achieve these overarching goals, we will pursue an array of integrated and interdisciplinary objectives designed to educate internal and external audiences on the key tenets of entrepreneurship and how to incorporate them into classroom and business environments.

The ELC at MU is dedicated to the principle of experiential learning. As a result, it helps students grow as entrepreneurs by playing a role of resource center. The support of student entrepreneurial ventures includes the following:

  • Student start-up
  • Engagement in entrepreneurial ventures through consulting, internships, and projects in enterprising non-profit organizations
  • Technology commercialization

To achieve its overarching goals, ELC at MU will pursue an array of integrated and interdisciplinary objectives designed to educate internal and external audiences on the key tenets of entrepreneurship and how to incorporate them into classroom and business environments. To shape the practice and teaching of Entrepreneurship, the ELC at MU pursues the following outcomes:

  • Provision of faculty development opportunities focused on how to weave entrepreneurship concepts into existing curricula.
  • Course revisions and introduction of new courses reflecting entrepreneurial thinking across disciplines, with emphasis on providing internship opportunities that encourage undergraduate and graduate students to practice entrepreneurship and consider self-employment as a viable employment option.

The ELC at MU is a bridge that connects entrepreneurs, inventors, and others involved in entrepreneurial practice with Millersville University. The ELC at MU fosters Collaboration with key community partners (Alliance Capital Group, BASE, Inc., Economic Development Company of Lancaster County, Lancaster County Convention Center Authority, The Lancaster Chamber of Commerce & Industry, SACA, and SCORE Lancaster Chapter No. 16) and student organizations to offer public forums, seminars, guest lecturers, visiting scholars in residence, lunches with CEOs, and other focused activities designed to bring heightened visibility to entrepreneurship on campus and in the greater Lancaster area.
