What Type Of Computer Should I Buy?

Computer Science students do not need to own a computer, as we have labs available for their use. But it is very convenient to be able to work on your assignments from home, so it is strongly recommended.

The software used in our courses will generally run fine on any Windows, MacOS, or Linux-based computer, but we do have a few suggestions of hardware to avoid:

• Tablets, Chromebooks, and other devices that restrict what can be installed on them.
• Devices that use new / uncommon architectures, such as Windows on ARM processors (Surface Pro X is a recent example).
