Degree Requirements

Millersville University's baccalaureate degree programs have four common elements:

  • Proficiency requirements in English composition and mathematics.
  • The general education program, which constitutes about half of the curriculum (approxiamately 51 of the 120 minimum credits required for graduation).
  • The major program, which usually constitutes most of the other half of the curriculum.
  • Open Elective courses, if needed, to meet the minimum of 120 credits required for graduation. A few programs require more than 120 credits for graduation.
  • Must have at least a 2.0 GPA to graduate, overall and in the major and minor (unless higher is required, as with some majors).

Major Requirements

Requirements for each major can be found in detail on the curriculum sheets and within the degree audit system (DegreeWorks in MAX). These provide the list of required core major courses, major elective courses, and necessary required-related courses (courses required for the major but from other departments). Other requirements may be listed on each curriculum sheet including admission requirements, retention for the major requirements, proficiency requirements, etc.

Minor Requirements

A minor is an curricular add-on to your major/degree requirements. Some majors require a minor. All minors require at least 18.0 credits to complete but some require more. With proper advisement and planning, usually a minor can be accommodated along with major and general education requirements and fit into the 120 credits for graduation.

Requirements for each minors can be found in detail on the curriculum sheets and within the degree audit system (DegreeWorks in MAX). These provide the list of required minor courses and minor elective courses. Other requirements may be listed on each curriculum sheet including admission to the minor requirements, proficiency requirements, etc. 

Please note the following regulations governing minor course work:

1. There shall be a minimum of 18.0 credit hours with a minimum of GPA of 2.0.

2. Only one course which counts toward a major may be counted toward your minor.

3. Courses that count toward a minor are also eligible to be used to satisfy General Education requirements, following Gen Ed guidelines.

4. At least two courses should be upper-level (300-400).

5. No courses needed for the minor may be taken pass-fail.

6. At least half of the coursework required for the minor must be completed at Millersville.

7. No student may minor in their major.
