Mission Statement

The mission of the The Center for Sustainability is to

  • Educate the MU community about the three pillars of sustainability (environmental protection, economic justice, and social equality);
  • Provide opportunities for MU to directly participate in sustainability initiatives on and off campus;
  • Encourage student and faculty-led research and service on sustainability.

Campus Sustainability Day

Wednesday October 22nd

The Center for Sustainability, in conjunction with the Sustainability Committee and the Office of the President, is thrilled to announce the first annual Campus Sustainability Day event on October 22, from 10 am - 4 pm in the SMC Atrium and Promenade. The event is free and open to the public and is designed for the entire campus community

A ribbon-cutting ceremony with President Anderson at 10am in the SMC Atrium launches the campus-wide TerraCycle/SmileTrain program, which will establish receptacles and signage in all offices and buildings on campus.

VeggiesAn organic vegetable garden located behind the Huntingdon House, across from the SMC. 

TerraCycle at the Ville'age

TerraCycleGarbage collection project. Proceeds go to save a child's life through SmileTrain. Collect your garbage accepted by TerraCycle and give it to us.

Wheatland Middle School Garden

GardenMU partnered with students at Wheatland Middle School to cultivate a garden at the Lancaster Community Garden! Read Julia Dunn's blog to see what the experience has been like working with these students to teach them about gardening, sustainability, and the inner workings of the human brain!

    Campus Sustainability Manager

    Please welcome: Mr. Chris Steuer, CSM, as Millersville University’s first Sustainability Manager. This position will report directly to the Vice President for Finance and Administration beginning October 12, 2015. Mr. Steuer holds a Master of Science degree in Physical Geography and Bachelor of Science in Earth Sciences from Pennsylvania State University.
