Department Seminars

The Chemistry Department schedules weekly seminars during the academic year. Seminars are usually scheduled for 4:00-5:00 p.m. on Mondays in Roddy Hall, Room 149. All the seminars are open to the public.

Please see the list of our current seminar series: Spring 2024 Seminar Schedule

During the fall semester, the Department arranges for speakers to come from various graduate schools, industry and pharmaceutical companies. These professionals generally speak about their research and provide an opportunity to learn about current work in chemistry. These speakers also like to recruit our majors for their graduate schools and/ or for positions in the companies they represent; and thus, they are usually available for interviews with students during the day of their visit. During the spring semester, most of the seminar speakers are senior Millersville Chemistry majors enrolled in Senior Seminar, CHEM 488. Student seminar topics range from the research they have performed to subjects of general interest.

All chemistry majors are expected to attend all of the Monday seminars. The Department strongly believes that by so doing students will expand their horizons by learning something about chemistry that is not presented in the classroom. Seminars give the student an opportunity to get to know all of the members of the faculty as well as the other students majoring in chemistry. In addition, announcements of interest to students, such as job availability, internships, and co-operative education opportunities are made at the beginning of the seminar period.
