Our Intellectual Community
The English Department offers an intellectual community where students interact with professors and peers in publishing endeavors, in informal club settings, and during special events. Students are encouraged to participate in a variety of activities to expand both their intellectual horizons and their social circles.
English Club: Interested in poetry readings and book discussions? Need a place to share and get feedback on your creative work, or just want to hang out with others interested in films, plays, and community service? Stop in at one of our weekly meetings! You don't need to be an English Major to join!
Cine Club: If you love watching and discussing films with others, then this club is for you! Free membership gives students access to many different films each semester. The group also takes trips to film showings and in the past has gone to the Toronto International Film Festival.
George Street Carnival: The Millersville University literary magazine gives students, faculty, and staff a place to submit artwork, poetry, and stories for publication. The free magazine is produced once every spring semester. Submit your work through the English Department today!
First Fridays: The first Friday of every month, Lancaster celebrates the arts downtown with open art galleries, films, entertainment, and great food. On third Fridays, music is the focus.
Lancaster Literary Guild: The Guild offers lectures, workshops, and a free literary journal. A small membership fee is required to attend the lectures and workshops.
Cultural Events at the Fulton Theatre: Located in Lancaster, the Fulton offers entertainment galore! Bring your student I.D. to the Box Office one hour before curtain and pay only ten dollars for your ticket! Or, call 394-7133 for more information.
Franklin & Marshall College Cultural Events: Nearby F&M College offers films, art, lectures, theater and workshops. They offer an open common hour every week with speakers.

Departmental Thesis: Work with a faculty member to come up with a writing project. You could do a research paper or a creative work, like a collection of poems or stories.
Honors College: the Honors College at Millersville University offers motivated students the unique opportunity of smaller class sizes, scholarship opportunities from the National Collegiate Honors Council, and community with Honors College faculty and fellow Honors College students in the same dorm. An excellent opportunity for adventurous and talented students.
Study Abroad: Millersville University offers several study abroad opportunities in countries like England, Japan, Chile, Scotland, and South Africa, among many others!
