About the Exhibition ...

In my show "Fragility from Within", I present works ranging from ink, graphite and color pencil drawings, prints, and glass work that were inspired by my brittle bones and the hardships that have impacted my mental health.  In my artwork, I depict the fragility of both the mind and the body while also showing aspects of the healing journey.  I also want to bring more awareness of the impact having a physical disability has on an individual.  I don't use self-portraits in my works; instead, I use the human skeletal system as my main subject since I believe it leaves no biases and allows the viewer to put themselves in the piece, hopefully to feel seen and understood with their own struggle.  With my show, "Fragility from Within", I want the viewers to get glimpses of my life and to put themselves in the art pieces.

About the Artist ...

Jamie VanHorn grew up in Perry County where she found her love for art at a very young age and continued to pursue her interest despite not being in an area where the arts were appreciated.  Her genetic bone condition, Osteogenesis Imperfecta, along with her journey of healing from trauma throughout her life, has impacted what she creates due to wanting to bring her story to life while using the skeletal system as her subject.  In the past 3 years, VanHorn has been in multiple group exhibitions with other student artists through Millersville University.  VanHorn is graduating in the Fall of 2023 with a degree in Fine Arts with a concentratiaon in printmaking and drawing.
