About the Exhibition ...

Perverted is an exhibition that explores what content is allowed within the realm of fine art.  The works displayed explore identity, sexuality, and their intersection, with an emphasis on craftsmanship and historical precedence.  As a transmasculine artist, Elliot has passion for paying homage to the queer artists that have come before him, and each piece within the exhibition was made with careful consideration to preserving queer art history, as well as expanding upon it.  Due to this, Elliot has studied the censorship of queer art and erotic art throughout history.  A series within this show, In The Face of Censorship, explores the bounds between coded art and censored art.  He feels strongly about curating an environment in which there is no need to hide your passions while still being welcomed in art.  As a collection, the exhibition seeks to hold a place for sex and identity within a gallery setting, and to challenge audiences to examine their concept of acceptable subject matter within fine art.

About the Artist ...

Elliot Cushey is a Central Pennsylvania based artist working primarily in printmaking, drawing, and multimedia installations.  He is a transmasc artist that comes from a small town in Lancaster County.  Elliot's work centers trans and queer identities within the realm of fine art.  He makes work that explores sex and identity, while contemplating how far subject matter can represent the two within fine art realms.  He has been featured in "Strapped", a magazine based in Manchester UK which showcases the art of transmasculine artists.  He is a BFA candidate for Millersville University's class of 2024.
