’Ville for Life Snapshots

Dr. Stacey M. Fink ’72 was a beloved Mu Alpha Kappa brother whose life of achievement and service began during his college days at Millersville. As an undergraduate, Stacey balanced academics, athletics, and fraternity life with extraordinary dedication. He earned his bachelor’s degree in Biology in 1972 (later adding a master’s in 1977) and shone on the baseball field as a three-season player for the Marauders. Within Mu Alpha Kappa, Stacey was known for his camaraderie and leadership; he even served as President of Millersville’s Interfraternity Council, representing all Greek organizations on campus, and was honored in Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges for his outstanding campus involvement. These early experiences – from living in a close-knit group home in his youth where “teamwork and giving back” were a way of life to leading his fraternity brothers – instilled in him values that would guide a lifetime of purpose and kindness.

finkAfter graduating, Dr. Fink pursued his passion for science and helping others through an impressive career in medicine. He earned a Ph.D. in Anatomy in 1982, focusing on breast cancer research, followed by an M.D. in 1985 from the University of Louisville. He then completed pediatrics and neonatal-perinatal training at the Medical College of Georgia by 1990. As a specialist in neonatology, Stacey dedicated himself to caring for the most vulnerable patients – premature and critically ill newborns. He served as an attending neonatologist in hospitals across the Southeast and later back home in Pennsylvania at Lancaster General Hospital’s Women & Babies Hospital, where he ultimately retired in 2013. Colleagues recall that he approached his work with great compassion; he often remarked that he wanted to “give these babies a chance at life,” reflecting the heartfelt devotion that defined his vocation. Through his decades of medical service, Dr. Fink gave hundreds of infants the gift of a healthy start, earning the respect of peers and the gratitude of countless families.

finkThroughout his life, Stacey remained deeply connected to his alma mater and his fraternity brothers, demonstrating that the bonds of MAK brotherhood truly last a lifetime. He stayed involved with Millersville University in numerous ways – serving on the Alumni Association board and on the advisory board for the School of Science and Mathematics, and even chairing the student health and wellness initiative of the university’s We Will Soar capital campaign. Together with his wife, Karen, he also generously supported Millersville athletics and academics. In 2019, they established the Stacey M. Fink, M.D., Ph.D. Academic Achievement Award, an annual scholarship recognizing the junior baseball student-athlete with the highest academic performance, a fitting tribute to Stacey’s own days as a scholar-athlete. Those who knew Stacey remember him as a friendly, kind, and gentle man who was always ready to lend a helping hand or an encouraging word. Whether mentoring young colleagues in neonatology or reminiscing with MAK alumni at Homecoming, he embodied the fraternity’s ideals of camaraderie, leadership, and service. Dr. Stacey Fink’s legacy continues to inspire all who were fortunate to call him a brother and friend – a legacy of excellence and empathy that the Mu Alpha Kappa community will cherish and honor for years to come.
