Why Study This Program?

Studying Statistics at Millersville University will prepare you to develop and apply mathematical and statistical theory and methods to collect, organize, interpret and summarize numerical data. This option, which is housed within the Mathematics department, is taught by high quality faculty who have expertise in this area. 

The Statistics option can be applied to any of the Mathematics degrees at Millersville including a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) or Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Mathematics or a Bachelor of Science in Education (B.S.E.). The department also offers minors in mathematics and statistics. 

What Will You Learn?

The Statistics option is intended to prepare students for work as statisticians as well as for graduate study in statistics. The program covers all aspects of mathematics before delving deeper into specific statistics courses. Students enrolled in any of the B.A., B.S. or B.S.Ed. programs may the Statistics Option by including high level mathematics and statistics courses to fulfill their major. 

All mathematics courses are taught by full-time, dedicated mathematics professors, all of whom hold a doctoral degree and have diverse interests in pure and applied mathematics, statistics and mathematics education. Faculty members are highly engaged in scholarly activities in their field. 

Many majors complete independent research projects, working one-on-one with professors. These are often completed as part of a student’s senior honors thesis for either departmental honors or as part of the University’s Honors College requirements.

The student-staffed Mathematics Assistance Center (MAC) is a tutoring center that provides free drop-in tutoring for mathematics courses, from introductory mathematics and statistics courses through the calculus sequence. The MAC operates during both daytime and evening hours.
