Bio
Mark is a retired Art teacher from the George A. Smith Middle School in the Solanco School District, Lancaster County, having served the district for 44 years. Mark grew up in the Harrisburg area, and earned his art education degree from Millersville. He did further studies at the University of Delaware. Besides being active in his church, Mark continues as a member of the Millersville University Alumni Association’s Board of Directors and various alumni committees. He is a contributing member of the Quarryville Lions Club. Mark coordinates art exhibits for the Solanco Fair and the Quarryville Library, and provides a drawing each year for the Southern Lancaster County Historical Society’s annual calendar. One of his illustrations graces a military monument that he designed for Memorial Park in Quarryville. He currently works part-time in retail sales in the gift shops of the Strasburg Rail Road.
“As an alumnus of Millersville, I have always felt the responsibility to give back to the university in a variety of ways, through my committee work, in supporting students through attendance at sporting events and various productions such as the ‘Glorious Sounds of the Season’ and the All Campus Musical, as well as contributing to financial appeals and by establishing a scholarship for future student success. I especially enjoy serving student meals at The Hub, and welcoming new students by attending the annual Candle Lighting Ceremony at The Pond.”
