Drawing Exercise: Supplies: drawing tools, paper, straight edge

  1. Set out a piece of paper, hold a drawing tool, and set a timer for 2 minutes.
  2. Slowly draw one long, looping, layered curved line without looking or lifting the tool.
  3. Take a few minutes to just look at the image you created.
  4. Envision where some straight lines would look good.
  5. Using a straight edge, draw several lines imagining what each would look like first.
  6. Color areas with the same intentional way you added the straight lines.
  7. Write a short paragraph about what you see in the finished abstract drawing and how it felt to create it.
  8. Take a photo of your favorite part of the drawing, cropping out the rest.
