Dr. Robert Buchanan

Dr. J. Robert Buchanan is the faculty representative for the College of Science and Technology. He is a professor in the mathematics department at Millersville University. Buchanan has taught at Millersville since 1995. He specializes in differential equations and mathematical finance. Before his time at Millersville, he was a mathematician at the National Institute of Environmental Sciences, where he would use mathematical operations to assess human health risks when exposed to pollutants.  

Buchanan began his education at Davidson College, where he received a bachelor’s degree in physics. He then attended North Carolina State University, earning a master’s degree and doctorate in applied mathematics. He became a licensed actuary in 2015. 

Buchanan is also a published textbook author. His works include An Undergraduate Introduction to Financial Mathematics and A First Course in Partial Differential Equations. He is also a member of the Mathematical Association of America. As a faculty member, Buchanan has supported a wide variety of causes at Millersville, including the Winter Center and The Ware Center.
