The Department of Mathematics and Physics provides programs of the highest quality leading to bachelor's degrees in mathematics, secondary mathematics education, or secondary physics education. The department has a strong commitment to excellence in teaching and offers a wide range of courses in pure and applied mathematics, statistics, mathematics education, and physics.



We focus on preparing our students for careers or graduate study in mathematical fields, including secondary mathematics teaching, pure mathematics, applied mathematics, statistics and actuarial science. We also serve the broader university community by providing a full range of introductory through advanced mathematics and physics courses that support students students from all majors at varying mathematical levels. 



The Department of Mathematics and Physics at Millersville University offers the following four-year degrees:


  • Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in Mathematics

  • Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Mathematics
  • Bachelor of Science in Education (B.S.Ed.) in Mathematics [Secondary Mathematics Education]
  • Bachelor of Science in Education (B.S.Ed.) in Physics [Secondary Physics Education]



Within each of first three major programs, a student may elect the Actuarial Science Option or Statistics Option. Within the B.S. program, there is also an Option in Applied Mathematics. Also, within each of the programs, a student may opt to complete a Departmental Honors Thesis.



The department also offers a Minor in Mathematics, a Minor in Statistics, and a Minor in Physics. A minor in mathematics, statistics, or physics enhances your resume, increases your skill set, and expands the range of subjects one can teach if you are interested in teaching. The minor may only require 3 courses in addition to the ones already required by your major, and pairs especially well with any of the following majors: Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, Earth Science, Meteorology, Accounting, Economics, Finance, and Management.
