The Music Production concentration prepares students for challenging careers in the music industry with a focus on recording, live audio, and modern music production.

Why Study this Program?

The Music Business Technology program at Millersville University prepares students for careers in the music industry. Students take courses in computer applications for music production, audio recording, artist management, international music business, music marketing, audio for video, live audio, and have the opportunity to perform in popular music and/or traditional music groups and ensembles. All students will take courses in music performance, music business and audio production and will specialize in one or more of three exciting concentrations: Music Management; Music Production; and Live Audio. Through a partnership with Clair Global (a global leader in live audio production and design), students at Millersville have the opportunity to study live audio at Clair Global’s headquarters with industry professionals. Students also have the opportunity to promote a concert for major national artists on campus; promote a showcase at the South by South West music festival in Austin, Texas; perform with national recording artists; produce music in one of Millersville’s three state-of-the-art recording studios, and learn about the music industry during one of many study abroad opportunities.

What Will You Learn?

Students will learn about every aspect of the music industry. Students taking the music production concentration will take courses in music and music business with a focus on audio engineering and modern music production courses. Beyond the core curriculum required for all Music Industry majors, students in this concentration will take courses in live audio, advanced recording techniques, synth and sampling, and audio for video.

MUSIC AND GENERAL APPLICATIONS REQUIRED

All applicants to the Music Department must file two applications: one to the Millersville Admissions Office for acceptance to the University and one to the Department of Music for acceptance to the department.

AUDITION REQUIRED

You must also schedule an audition with the Department of Music. The audition process includes four required components and is performed on scheduled dates. Auditions begin at 9:30 a.m. and conclude no later than 1 p.m. Dress professionally.
