Introduction to studio signal flow and audio hardware including microphones, cables, interfaces, routing, gain staging, analog workflow, and the essentials of capturing clean, professional sound.
Introduction to industry-standard recording workflow including session setup, track organization, click/tempo, headphone mixes, take management, and how producers and engineers communicate to get great performances.
Introduction to Pro Tools (Digital Audio Workstation) including recording, editing, comping, basic processing, and mixing fundamentals used in professional studios.
Students will experience the entire recording process—moving from pre-production planning into engineering, tracking producing, and mixing—learning the craft while building real session skills in a studio environment.
Students will leave with a clearer understanding of studio roles (engineer, producer, musician) and the career pathways connected to recording and production.
The Live Audio & Lighting Experience
Introduction to live sound fundamentals including microphones, DI boxes, cabling, signal flow, gain staging, monitor vs. FOH mixing, and the real-world pace of show-day problem solving.
Introduction to concert-style workflow including stage plots, input lists, patching, line checks, sound checks, communication on headset, and how a crew runs a show safely and efficiently.
Introduction to stage lighting essentials including fixtures, control concepts, cues, looks, and how lighting supports energy, clarity, and “moments” in a live performance.
Students will build and run a real show from load-in through full tech rehearsal—then execute a live band performance where students operate audio and lights as a production team.
Weekly flow: Monday/Tuesday (Audio Focus) • Wednesday (Lighting Focus) • Thursday (Full Tech Rehearsal & Live Band Performance)
