Minors
Department of History & Philosophy
History Minor
Students who choose a minor in history are required to take a minimum of 18 semester hours of history courses distributed according to departmental guidelines. All history courses except applied history will count toward a minor.
Philosophy Minor
Philosophical study presents an occasion to develop critical life skills that prepare students for a wide horizon of career choices and professional opportunities as they learn to address and think through a complex world of both longstanding and emergent issues. Our two programs provide students with experiences, skills, and resources that become pathways to competitive law school admissions, graduate schools, and other areas of study and practice after college.
Students get a grounding in the history of philosophy as well as training in philosophical analysis and writing and develop critical thinking and communicative skills useful in many professional fields. This is excellent preparation for varied career paths, including law, theology, business, cognitive science, literary professions, politics and public advocacy.
Students from other majors may also pursue a minor in philosophy, and/or a certificate in Ethics and Society.
Military Science Minor
Minor in Military Sciences allows the student to pursue a diverse program that incorporates military history, ethics, public administration and the use of the military as an instrument of educational enhancement.
