M.S.W. Social Work
I am now about to obtain my master’s in social work and school social work certification! I did it in a year, when others doubted my ability to do it. I did it! Being a single mom has not set me back. It motivated me. I am proud of myself for doing this at the age of 24! I want to inspire other young parents that they can achieve ANYTHING they want to and to not let anything or anybody stop them. My son is my biggest blessing, and having my degree(s) means so much to me! Thank you to my family, friends and professors who have supported me.

One of the most valuable aspects of my journey has been the emphasis on leadership and service. I learned that leadership is not just about taking charge but about listening, collaborating and uplifting those around me. Working with diverse groups of people helped me appreciate different perspectives and strengthened my communication and teamwork skills.
Additionally, EPPIIC pushed me to reflect on my values and future goals. It made me more intentional about how I spend my time and what I want to achieve beyond graduation. I’ve become more confident in my abilities and more motivated to pursue opportunities that align with my passions.

I always knew I was going to attend college. The question, however, was where, how and in what field. I had a few false starts, but eventually I made my way to Millersville University, and I feel at home with Millersville’s EPPIIC values. I feel that the values of this University are conducive to future excellence in all fields, and I believe I have grown significantly as a scholar and as a person, thanks to the environment at Millersville.

Being neurodivergent meant taking a different approach than normal to schoolwork, which is something Millersville University has been very flexible on. I gave my all on every assignment I was given, but I also knew to allow myself to take things at my own pace. The student organizations I joined were also instrumental to my journey, providing me with social connections I would not have obtained otherwise. Overall, my journey at Millersville University has been very fulfilling, and I’m going to be so happy when I’m finally recognized with my degree.

MSN Nursing | Family Nurse Practitioner
My EPPIIC journey at Millersville University has been defined by curiosity, service and a deep commitment to growth as a future Family Nurse Practitioner. Through exploration, I have consistently challenged the status quo in both academic and clinical settings, asking “why” and seeking evidence-based alternatives to improve patient outcomes and care delivery. My diverse clinical experiences in family medicine, geriatrics, urgent care, neurology, orthopedics and bariatrics have allowed me to connect ideas across disciplines and contribute meaningfully to patient-centered improvements. Embracing the University’s public mission, I have demonstrated a passion for serving the community through compassionate care, particularly for vulnerable and underserved populations.
My commitment to professionalism is reflected in my academic excellence, maintaining a 4.0 GPA, and my pursuit of lifelong learning through certifications and hands-on leadership roles in fast-paced healthcare environments. I strive to uphold inclusion by using respectful, patient-centered communication and ensuring that individuals from all backgrounds feel heard, valued and empowered in their care. Guided by integrity, I take pride in being dependable, accountable and ethical – consistently following through on commitments and fostering trust among colleagues and patients. Finally, compassion has remained at the core of my journey, demonstrated through active listening, empathy and advocacy for patients’ needs while respecting their dignity and privacy.

My EPPIIC journey at Millersville University has been a meaningful part of both my academic and personal growth as I approach graduation. EPPIIC – Exploration, Public Mission, Professionalism, Inclusion, Integrity, and Compassion – has shaped how I approach my education, my work and my interactions with others.
Through exploration, I pushed myself beyond my comfort zone by taking on new challenges in my IT studies and learning hands-on skills that will prepare me for my career. Millersville’s public mission encouraged me to think about how my knowledge can serve others, especially through helping people solve technical problems and making technology more accessible.
Professionalism has been especially important in balancing school with my work schedule. Managing responsibilities, meeting deadlines and communicating effectively with professors and peers have prepared me for the expectations of the workplace. Inclusion has also played a big role in my experience. Working with classmates from different backgrounds helped me grow in understanding and respect for diverse perspectives.
Integrity guided me to stay honest in my work and committed to doing my best, even when courses were challenging. Lastly, compassion reminded me to support others, whether it was helping classmates or being patient when teaching someone new technology.
As I graduate, I carry these EPPIIC values with me. They have not only helped me succeed at Millersville but also prepared me to contribute positively in my future career and community.

B.A. Social Work
My EPPIIC journey at Millersville University has been both transformative and deeply affirming. As someone who was born with a genetic progressive disability, I have navigated higher education with a unique perspective, one shaped by resilience, adaptability and a strong commitment to advocacy. EPPIIC has provided me with a space where my lived experience is not only acknowledged but valued as a source of insight and leadership.
Through this program, I have had the opportunity to engage in meaningful conversations around diversity, equity and inclusion, particularly as they relate to disability. These experiences have strengthened my understanding of systemic barriers while also empowering me to be part of the change. I’ve learned to approach challenges not just through a personal lens but from a broader, macro-level perspective, which aligns closely with my goals in social work.
EPPIIC has also helped me grow in confidence. It has encouraged me to share my voice, advocate for accessibility and help create more inclusive environments on campus and beyond. Whether through discussions, collaborations or leadership opportunities, I have felt supported in both my personal and professional development.
Most importantly, my journey has reinforced my passion for uplifting others, especially individuals with disabilities who may feel overlooked or unheard. EPPIIC has reminded me that inclusion is not just about being present; it’s about being seen, valued and empowered to thrive.

Being a very nontraditional student, when I came back to school, I went through a period of culture shock. I almost got to the point of thinking I wasn’t going to be able to finish, but with the help of my advisor, Dr. Elizabeth Thyrum, and Julianne Browne from Learning Services, I made it through the first semester. I met my third angel, Dr. Frederika Schmitt, who simply believed in me. About the time I started my third semester, I had encountered several setbacks and was very discouraged, until I took a class with Dr. Debra Vrendenburg- Rudy, who, along with those mentioned above, helped me have the best semester of my University career. I can now see the end looming before me and am going to miss my campus life. I will carry these people with me when I go and thank God every day for putting them in my path.

B.S. Computer Science
My EPPIIC journey at Millersville University has been a meaningful part of both my academic and personal growth. As a computer science major, I have developed not only technical skills but also a deeper understanding of the values that EPPIIC represents: Exploration, Professionalism, Public Mission, Inclusion, Integrity and Compassion.
Exploration has been central to my time here, as I’ve engaged with areas such as systems programming and web development. Beyond the classroom, I served as a private tutor for the computer science department, which strengthened my ability to explain complex concepts and adapt to different learning styles. This role also reinforced professionalism through clear communication, patience and accountability.
My professional development has also been shaped by my role as a technical support intern at Cargas since May 2025. In this position, I have gained hands-on experience solving real-world technical issues, working directly with customers and collaborating with my team to deliver effective solutions. This has strengthened both my technical abilities and my confidence in professional environments.
My commitment to the public mission is reflected in my volunteer work with the Girls Code Club at the Lancaster Science Factory. Through this work, I encourage young girls to explore coding while emphasizing the importance of accessibility and representation in technology.
Inclusion and compassion have also shaped my journey, particularly through collaborative class projects and leadership experiences. As a senior analyst in the Marauder Fund, I have worked closely with peers to make thoughtful, data-driven decisions while valuing diverse perspectives. These experiences have strengthened my integrity and accountability in both academic and professional settings.
Overall, my EPPIIC journey has helped shape me into a well-rounded individual committed to making a positive difference through both my work and my values.

B.A. Psychology
It is common for those in my family to live in chaos, fight-or-flight mode activated at all times. We make decisions based on survival and the good of others. And in a way, that’s not a bad thing. However, it took me way too long to realize that isn’t the only way to live. I got pregnant with my first daughter at 19. For many, becoming a mom changes their priorities in a way that makes it impossible to pursue their own dreams, and I’ve faced a lot of judgment and doubt for the way my life has panned out. I’ve had to work twice as hard to maintain a good standing in my academics while being present with my daughters. I’ve had to prove my excellence in many areas, and my brain is always pulled in multiple directions. I’m lucky enough to have an incredible partner who helps raise our babies and fully supports me emotionally and financially.
In addition to him, I have amazing support through my family. It’s been an incredibly difficult journey, and I still have a little ways to go, but I do it because I want to show my daughters and the rest of the youth in the upcoming generations that life doesn’t have to be an uphill battle. Choosing the right path can include education despite the other obstacles you may face. While raising children is the most humbling and incredible experience I have had thus far, it is not the defining factor of my life. I transferred to Millersville for a bachelor’s in psychology with the goal of becoming an expressive arts therapist. Prior to beginning my psychology degree, I completed an associate in fine arts through HACC. Following graduation, I will pursue grad school for a master’s in social work and a certificate in expressive arts. My desire is to help our emerging generations with setting themselves up for success from the start. For some, art is a great way of coping with hardships. It serves as an outlet and a form of expression. What someone creates can speak volumes about the way they are thinking or feeling. Art was my saving grace when I was going through some of the darkest times of my life, and my wish is for others to experience the way it can change their lives too.

My journey at Millersville University as an international student-athlete has been one of the most meaningful chapters of my life. Coming from a different country, I arrived with excitement but also uncertainty about what the experience would bring. Over time, this place became more than just a university – it became a home.
Balancing academics and athletics challenged me to grow in ways I never expected, teaching me discipline, resilience and confidence. Along the way, I was fortunate to meet some of the most incredible people who quickly turned into lifelong friends. The bonds we built through field hockey practice, class time and everyday moments are something I will always cherish. Every experience shaped me to be who I am today. I am so grateful for the opportunities I’ve had, the lessons I’ve learned and the memories I’ve created here. Millersville has given me more than an education – it has given me a community, a sense of belonging and friendships that will last far beyond my time here.

My EPPIIC journey started well before the first day of classes my freshman year. During the application process and while researching Millersville University, I found all of the EPPIIC values to be ones I wanted to embrace and follow. Not only are these values important for my personal goals and career, but knowing that the campus community seeks students with similar values made my decision clear: I wanted to attend Millersville.
Now that my time at Millersville is coming to an end, I take time to reflect on my journey as a leader, a role model and a student who persevered for my well-being. I am a student who put in the effort, stayed up late and dedicated the hours and hard work needed to get things done. When I wanted to push my limits, I explored my options and took action. I tried new things and found myself taking on new opportunities – not just in leadership roles, but in gaining valuable life experience.
I remained professional and upheld high standards when communicating with respected members of our community, whether at student open houses or while leading campus events like Superfest. I have a passion for serving others – that’s why I chose to become a teacher, why I became a leader and why I strive to be someone others can look up to.
My journey at Millersville may be closing a chapter, but my life’s story is filled with chapters still waiting to begin. It starts by closing one chapter and opening another.

B.S. Emergency Management
I started at Millersville as a meteorology major. I loved weather but struggled to do the math that’s associated with it. I found emergency management through my freshman seminar class with Dr. Yalda. I fell in love and took the leap into EM as a sophomore and didn’t look back! Emergency management allowed me to still do things with weather while also being able to help people. Since changing majors, I have gotten the chance to attend a few of the annual conferences for the International Association of Emergency Managers, and I have completed an internship with my local emergency management agency.
I have also joined the conference planning committee, gone back to my home EMA as a volunteer and been elected president to the Millersville chapter of IAEM. My journey here wasn’t easy. I struggled a lot with anxiety when I first started, but I quickly found an amazing group of friends who have now become family. I got involved with campus activities and started to fall in love with college. I joined a few clubs, started a podcast about EM and spent a ton of time in the library, both doing schoolwork and spending time with friends. As I got further into my college career, I declared a minor in occupational safety and environmental health, which allowed to dive even further into the world of emergency management, as both majors align closely. I made a lot of lifetime friends and connections, especially with the best professors on campus: Dr. Yalda and Dr. Hagelgans. While I wasn’t sure where college would take me when I first started, I couldn’t be more thankful for where it has led me as it’s coming to a close.

My journey at Millersville University has been much more than the pursuit of a degree; it has been a testament to the power of perseverance and faith. As a first-generation college graduate, I have walked a path that was not previously paved for me. My experience has not been a traditional college journey but a unique road that required balancing a rigorous academic program with the responsibilities of working, raising my children and serving at my church. By choosing this route, I have let my children witness a vital truth: Following your path does not always look like how you thought it would, but God’s timing is always perfect.
In the quiet tension between professional responsibilities and the needs of my household, I found my strength by leaning on God. Whether I was completing assignments at the heart of the home or fulfilling my commitments at church, I was modeling the grit and lifelong learning I hope to inspire in my own classroom. Maintaining excellent grades wasn’t about seeking personal accolades or perfection; it was about honoring the stewardship of my education so that I could serve my future students with the very best of my abilities.
I have discovered that a “hallelujah” isn’t just for the mountaintops or the day the diploma arrives. It’s for the quiet, difficult moments when strength feels small but the purpose feels big. My journey proves that I don’t just teach the value of hard work; I live it daily. Maintaining my grades wasn’t about perfection; it was about honoring the calling God placed on my life to serve children.

My EPPIC journey has been a bridge between two worlds: my graduate studies in Pennsylvania and my role as director of an early learning center in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. This journey has tested my spirit, refined my leadership and taught me the true meaning of EPPIIC values.
Balancing my master’s studies with my role as director has required a level of excellence and professionalism that goes beyond the classroom. All of the theories I have studied have been integrated into my learning center, ensuring that my students at home receive the outstanding foundational education they deserve.
In September 2025, my commitment to excellence met its greatest test as I navigated significant health challenges. The road to recovery was exhausting, demanding physical and mental strength I did not know I have in me. Handling recovery with leadership of my school and the demand of graduate study required a deep sense of integrity. I could not have walked this path alone; I hold a big gratitude for my life partner and for my entire family for being my rock. Their unwavering support allowed me to stay focused on my dreams when the challenges felt overwhelming.
As my learning center celebrates its 10th anniversary this year, I realized that true professionalism is about showing up for your community even in your most vulnerable moments. I return to my learning center not just with a master’s degree but with a renewed spirit, ready to lead with heart and expertise.
To my professors at Millersville University, thank you. Your mentorship, patience and belief in my potential have been the cornerstones of my success. You did more than teach me theory; you modeled the heart of a true educator.
As I approach my spring 2026 graduation, I am more than a student; I am filled with so much gratitude. This journey has not given me a degree; it has given me a global perspective to bring
home to Addis Ababa. I am proud to return to my center not as a director but as a lifelong learner and a Marauder for life.

My EPPIIC journey at Millersville University has been shaped by involvement across academics, campus life and service. Through my academic experience in the music department, I have had the opportunity to engage deeply in coursework, rehearsals and departmental events that have strengthened both my musicianship and my understanding of teaching and collaboration. These experiences reflect a commitment to exploration and professionalism, as I have continually worked to grow both inside and outside of the classroom.
Beyond academics, my involvement in extracurricular organizations has played a significant role in my development. Participating in student organizations and clubs has allowed me to connect with peers, contribute to a shared sense of community and take on leadership roles that support others’ growth. These experiences have reinforced the importance of inclusion and integrity, as I have learned to value diverse perspectives and work collaboratively toward common goals.
Service to Millersville has been a meaningful aspect of my journey, especially through my involvement in the Cygnus Society. Serving as a student ambassador has provided opportunities to represent the University at important events, engage with prospective students and families, and support campus initiatives. This role has deepened my appreciation for Millersville’s public mission and has allowed me to give back to a community that has given so much to me.

B.A. Social Work
My name is Anthony Rodriguez, and I began my journey at Millersville University in 2021 as a social work major. My freshman year was one of the most challenging experiences I’ve faced. I wasn’t used to being on my own, as I had always relied on my parents for support and guidance. When I first arrived on campus, I struggled to adjust to college life and did not perform as well as I hoped during my first semester.
At the end of that semester, I had an honest conversation with my mom. She asked me if I wanted to go back, and I saw it as a challenge. I chose to return, determined to do better. From that point forward, I made a commitment to get myself together, and I have been improving ever since. Although adjusting to college life was difficult, I eventually found my rhythm and learned how to stay focused and motivated.
During my time at Millersville, I found a strong sense of brotherhood through Millersville Concerned Men (MCM). This organization gave me a community and allowed me to grow both personally and professionally. I have also been involved in volunteer work with Lone Oak Farm, Gear Up, Milton Hershey students, and Talent Search, which has helped me connect with others and better understand the importance of giving back.
Overall, my journey has helped me grow into a more independent, motivated and focused individual. My future goal is to work in foster care and support children experiencing homelessness so I can make a positive impact in their lives.

My journey at Millersville has been defined by the EPPIIC values of Exploration, Professionalism, Public Mission, Inclusion, Integrity and Compassion, which have shaped not only my academic path but also my personal growth. Although my classes were all online, I was excited but unsure of what to expect. Over time, Millersville became a place where I discovered my strengths, challenged my assumptions and built meaningful connections. My peak experiences often came from collaborating with others, especially in group projects. These moments helped me understand Millersville’s public mission and my role within it. Looking back, I’m grateful for how much I’ve grown. Millersville didn’t just prepare me academically; it helped me become more confident, thoughtful and engaged. As I move forward, the EPPIIC values will continue to guide me, reminding me of the community that shaped who I am today.

M.S.W. Social Work
My journey at Millersville has been deeply shaped by resilience, purpose and the realities of living in poverty. Rather than discouraging me, my experiences have been a driving force behind my decision to pursue a master’s degree in social work. I have seen firsthand the barriers that individuals and families face, and I am committed to being part of the systems that help break those cycles.
Throughout my graduate program, I balanced multiple demanding roles. I worked full time as a mental health case manager, for wages that did not reflect the intensity or importance of the work. At the same time, I was a full-time mother, supporting and nurturing my family while navigating the financial strain that comes with low income. These challenges were not abstract; they were daily realities that required persistence, sacrifice and unwavering focus.
My husband, who is disabled, has been my strongest source of support. His encouragement and belief in me have been constant, even as we faced our own struggles together. Everything I have worked toward has been for my family – to create stability, opportunity and a different future.
My EPPIIC journey reflects not only academic achievement but a commitment to equity, perseverance and purpose. I am proud to have reached this milestone, not in spite of hardship but because of the strength it cultivated in me. I carry these experiences forward as I continue working to support others facing similar challenges, with both professional knowledge and lived understanding.

I am a first-generation college student; therefore, I had to navigate the college process independently and had to find resources to aid me in my success and understanding the steps to take to succeed. Through this process, I have built many connections that I otherwise would have not had the opportunity to do had I not been a first-generation college student. I am beyond thankful and appreciative of all the people and staff that have helped me get to where I am now and the relationships that I have made along the way.

Certificate of Integrated Studies – Communication & Theatre
My journey at Millersville University has been shaped by deep involvement, personal growth and a commitment to exploring opportunities both on campus and beyond. Since 2022, I have actively immersed myself in student organizations, leadership roles and professional experiences that have allowed me to grow creatively, academically and personally.
Through ACMO and University Theatre, I have been involved in multiple theatrical productions, including Macbeth, The Lightning Thief, Big Fish, Legally Blonde, and Into the Woods. These shows strengthened my collaboration skills and reinforced my passion for performance and production. I have also been an active member of Citamard Players since 2022, participating in CNL, improv performances and campus events. Serving as fundraising chair for the 2025-2026 academic year has been a meaningful leadership opportunity that allowed me to support the organization in a new way. My involvement also extends to Phi Mu Alpha, VilleHarmonics and Marauder Men, each of which has supported my growth through fellowship, music and service. During my freshman and sophomore years, I explored the outdoor community through the Conestoga Outdoors Club by participating in camping and hiking trips.
In addition to campus involvement, I have completed professional internships that strengthened my real‑world experience. I interned with the Dutch Apple Dinner Theatre and COVAD Theatre, where I gained hands‑on exposure to performance, production processes and professional theater environments. Most recently, I completed an internship at the Ware Center, further developing my skills in arts administration, event support and community engagement.
Balancing a highly involved campus life with academics was challenging at times, but it taught me time management, self‑responsibility, academic rigor and independence. I consistently challenged myself to try new things without fear of mistakes or failure. As I move forward, I remain committed to this mindset, continuing to put myself out there, seek new opportunities and build on the growth I began at Millersville University.

My EPPIIC journey at Millersville University has been shaped by growth, service and leadership. As a senior majoring in sports medicine, I explored opportunities to apply classroom knowledge through hands-on learning in exercise physiology, rehabilitation and patient care. These experiences strengthened my interest in pursuing a healthcare career focused on improving patient outcomes.
Professionalism developed through my role as a nursing assistant in the cardiology unit at York Hospital. Working alongside nurses and physicians strengthened my communication, teamwork and ability to remain calm in fast-paced environments. These experiences reinforced the importance of compassionate, patient-centered care.
Millersville’s Public Mission also aligns with my service in the Army National Guard, where I serve as a staff sergeant. Balancing military leadership, full-time night shifts and academics taught me discipline, resilience and accountability. My military experience also strengthened my commitment to serving diverse communities and leading with empathy.
Inclusion and Compassion guided my interactions with patients from different backgrounds. Being bilingual in French and Haitian Creole allowed me to help bridge communication gaps and support patients and families during vulnerable moments.
Through integrity, service and leadership, Millersville has prepared me to become a compassionate healthcare professional, ready to make a meaningful impact in the communities I serve.

B.S. Accounting
My time at Millersville University has been shaped by the opportunities I’ve taken and the communities I’ve been a part of, all of which have helped me truly live out the EPPIIC values – both as a student and as a person. Early in my journey, I was involved in CAMP, which helped me build a strong foundation and sense of belonging on campus. As I became more engaged, I stepped into leadership as the vice president of RIDGE, where I developed my communication, teamwork and leadership skills while working with a diverse group of students.
In addition to my leadership roles, I had the opportunity to work as an environmental fellowship assistant. This experience expanded my perspective beyond the classroom and allowed me to contribute to meaningful initiatives, reinforcing the importance of Millersville’s public mission and sustainability efforts. These experiences pushed me to grow not only academically but also in how I think about my role in a broader community.
One of the most impactful parts of my journey has been my professional development. Through connections I built at Millersville’s career fairs, I secured three internships that helped me explore different areas within accounting and gain real-world experience. Those same connections ultimately led to a full-time job offer, which reflects the power of networking, professionalism and putting yourself out there. These experiences taught me the importance of being proactive, building relationships and representing myself with confidence.
Beyond academics and career growth, Millersville has also given me meaningful personal connections. I’ve made lasting friendships and built strong relationships with professors who have supported and guided me throughout my journey. These connections have made my experience more fulfilling and have helped me grow into a more confident and well-rounded individual.
Overall, my time at Millersville has been more than just earning a degree. It has been about growth, leadership and connection. Through my involvement, experiences and relationships, I have learned
to embody the EPPIIC values in everything I do, and I will carry those lessons with me into my future career and life beyond college.

I began Millersville two years after I graduated high school in 2020. I moved out of my parents’ house when I was 18 and moved to Lancaster. I worked overnight for over a year to begin to save for school. I originally attended Penn State, but it had become too expensive. After enrolling at Millersville, I consistently worked two jobs throughout my first three years of college. Most weeks, I would work 50-55 hours while taking 15 credits.
During my student-teaching year, I worked 16-20 hours a week, overnight, before I would go teach from 7-3. Again, 56-60-hour work weeks. My full-time job covered half my tuition each semester, and the rest was paid out of pocket. FAFSA and PHEAA denied me for any aid besides loans, which I was unable to take out. They refused to consider me independent because I still had contact with my mom. I am so grateful for Millersville because of scholarship opportunities, award opportunities and their EPPIIC funds, which allowed me to be able to get a new apartment after I had no legal address for months at a time.

B.A. Social Work
My EPPIIC journey at Millersville has been a process of discovering my voice, strengthening my purpose and learning how to transform compassion into meaningful action. Each pillar of EPPIIC – Exploration, Professionalism, Public Mission, Inclusion, Integrity and Compassion – has shaped not only my education but the kind of social worker I am becoming.
Through Exploration, I learned to approach complex social issues with curiosity and humility. Coursework and field experiences encouraged me to ask deeper questions, challenge assumptions and seek out perspectives different from my own. This mindset became essential during my internship with Chester County Children, Youth & Families, where every case required thoughtful assessment and a willingness to understand each family’s unique story.
Professionalism and Integrity were strengthened through hands‑on practice. Whether documenting cases, collaborating with interdisciplinary teams or supporting youth in crisis, I learned the importance of ethical decision‑making, accountability and clear communication. Millersville’s emphasis on reflective practice helped me grow more confident in my judgment and grounded in my values.
The pillars of Inclusion and Compassion resonated deeply with my passion for advocacy. Millersville taught me how to move beyond empathy and into action – how to create safe, affirming spaces for children and families, and how to recognize the systemic barriers that shape their experiences. These lessons aligned with my own lived experiences and strengthened my commitment to trauma‑informed, strengths‑based practice.
Finally, Public Mission helped me see my work as part of something larger. Millersville encouraged me to view social work not only as a profession but as a responsibility to uplift communities, challenge inequities and contribute to lasting change.

My EPPIIC journey at Millersville University has been a meaningful and transformative experience. It has not always been easy, but every challenge has taught me more about my strength, my growth and what I am truly capable of achieving. When I first came here, I had doubts, but through faith in God and the support of my professors, mentors, family, friends and the Millersville community, I was able to keep going and push through even the hardest moments.
What stands out most to me is how the EPPIIC values shaped not only my academic experience but also my personal development. I learned to step outside of my comfort zone, engage with people from diverse backgrounds and grow in patience, confidence, empathy and understanding. These experiences have gone far beyond the classroom and have helped me become a stronger and more grounded individual.
The relationships I have built along the way mean everything to me. I am deeply grateful to my family, friends, classmates, mentors and all the individuals I listed earlier. Your encouragement, guidance and support have made this journey possible. Without all of you, and without God guiding me through every step, I would not be where I am today.
Looking back, I can truly see how far I have come, not only academically but personally and spiritually as well. Millersville has been more than a place to earn a degree; it has been a place where I discovered my voice, my purpose and my strength.
I am proud of my journey, and I move forward with gratitude, faith and determination. As I continue on my path, I carry everything I have learned here with me, and I remain thankful to God, my family and everyone who supported me along the way. I could not have done this without you.

Transferring from another college was both an exciting and challenging experience. Adjusting to a new environment while navigating how my previous coursework would align with Millersville’s requirements was not always easy. However, my experiences across all aspects of Millersville – from my classes and professors to the broader campus community – have supported my success in meaningful ways.
Throughout this transition, the faculty and staff who guided me did so with remarkable patience and grace. Their willingness to help made a significant difference in easing the uncertainty that often comes with transferring. More importantly, the people at Millersville made me feel seen and valued, which gave me the confidence to persevere.
Because of this supportive environment, I have grown not only academically but also personally. My experience here has shown me that with the right support system, anyone can overcome challenges and achieve their goals.

While many might look at my journey and see a heavy academic load paired with the strains of leadership training and see an uphill battle, my experience has proven that with the right framework, the “hard” parts simply become part of a successful routine.
Navigating a path featuring a criminology major alongside a triple-minor concentration in writing studies, military science and political science requires more than just intelligence; it requires a high-level tactical approach to time management. Where others might have seen a chaotic schedule, I saw a mission set. Applying the core principles of ROTC, leadership, accountability and precision, to the classroom, the academic weight didn’t become a burden. Instead, it became a series of objectives to be met.
The “eppiic” nature of this journey isn’t found in the struggle, but in the steady hand used to guide it. When you show up every day with a plan and a purpose, you don’t just survive the experience – you own it.

My EPPIIC journey at Millersville University has been a meaningful period of growth, leadership and connection. As a transfer student entering with an associate degree in early childhood education, I was initially focused on adjusting to a new academic environment while continuing to build on my passion for teaching young learners. Over time, I became more confident not only in my academic abilities but also in my voice as a leader and advocate within the campus community.
Getting involved played a major role in shaping my experience. Through the Millersville Black Student Union, where I served as vice president, I was able to collaborate with peers, organize events and contribute to creating an inclusive and empowering space for students of color. This leadership role strengthened my communication, organization and teamwork skills, all of which are essential in both educational and professional settings.
In addition, my involvement in the Delta Zeta sorority allowed me to build meaningful relationships, engage in service opportunities and further develop a sense of community and belonging. These experiences helped me grow personally while reinforcing the importance of service and connection.
Academically, I remained dedicated to my studies, graduating with honors and forming strong connections with several professors who supported and challenged me throughout my journey. Their mentorship helped shape my perspective on education and encouraged me to strive for excellence.

My journey began in 2018 as an undergraduate studying history and seeking my degree in secondary education. In 2020, when the world shut down and we were thrust online, working through Zoom and other meetings, things became very tough. I went into student teaching just a month before the shutdown and continued this in the fall of 2021. After graduating with my Bachelor of Science in Education in December 2022, I started seeking both a full-time teaching position and a master’s degree.
I sought my master’s degree in 2023 and am now graduating with a Master of Arts degree on May 9. It is crazy to think that I have been here at Millersville since 2018, and I am sad to be moving on. I am glad for everything that I have learned here and am excited for the future.

My EPPIIC journey at Millersville has been shaped by leadership, resilience and a deep commitment to inclusion and community. During my time here, I have taken on several leadership roles, including serving as president of the Millersville chapter of the Student Pennsylvania Education Association and president of Mentoring Educators for Tomorrow. In these roles, I worked to create supportive spaces for future educators, ensuring that students from all backgrounds and cultures felt safe, valued and encouraged as they pursued their goals. Additionally, as vice president of Omicron Delta Kappa, I helped organize a donation initiative for a local homeless shelter, reinforcing the importance of service and compassion.
My journey has not been without challenges. As often the only Latina student in my education classes, I sometimes felt out of place and aware of the lack of representation in the field. These experiences highlighted the broader teacher shortage, especially among educators of color. At times, I felt judged or isolated, but I also found meaningful connections with peers who appreciated my background and encouraged cultural exchange. These relationships helped me grow more confident in who I am.
I found a strong sense of belonging through identity-based programs and through inspiring mentors. In particular, Dr. Bill Himmele’s class on teaching young English language learners deeply resonated with me, as it connected to my mother’s experience coming to the United States from Puerto Rico at 14. Professors Dr. Miriam Witmer and Dr. Persida Himmele, who share a similar cultural background, were also a strong source of encouragement and support. Their guidance, along with Dr. Bill Himmele’s, reminded me of my purpose and gave me the strength to persevere during moments of doubt.
Overall, my EPPIIC journey has helped me grow into a more confident, compassionate and driven future educator who is committed to making a difference.

My EPPIIC journey began when I entered Millersville University in the fall of 2022 as a member of the Honors College. During my first two years, I focused heavily on my major and concentration, finding comfort and confidence in the academic spaces I already understood well. While this helped me build a strong foundation, I realized I had not yet pushed myself to explore opportunities beyond my familiar academic path. That shift happened during my junior year, when I made the intentional decision to pursue a thesis topic outside my major and concentration.
This choice marked a turning point in my journey. Stepping into an unfamiliar discipline required curiosity, adaptability and a willingness to embrace uncertainty – qualities at the heart of the EPPIIC model. As I explored this new field, I connected with professors, colleagues and students I might never have met otherwise. These interactions broadened my academic network and exposed me to new perspectives, research methods and areas of inquiry. Through this process, I discovered interests I had not previously considered. My thesis became more than a graduation requirement; it became an opportunity to practice independent research, communicate complex ideas and contribute to a topic that genuinely excites me. Sharing my findings allows me to engage others who may be curious about this area as well. Looking ahead, this experience will shape my future by giving me the confidence to pursue interdisciplinary work, collaborate across fields and remain open to unexpected academic and professional pathways. My EPPIIC journey has shown me that growth happens when I step beyond what is comfortable and allow myself to explore what is possible.

I arrived at the University unsure of who I wanted to become. Millersville gave me the confidence to lead the path I am on today. As I immersed myself in anthropological and archaeological courses, I felt something click – an excitement that went beyond academics. Learning about past civilizations, human evolution and cultural diversity made me see life from a broader, more meaningful perspective. Fieldwork and lab analysis taught me patience, attention to detail and respect for stories buried in time.
Through both friendships and study, I began to grow more confident, more open-minded, and more certain of my passions. I have gained lifelong friends for whom I am forever thankful. Our friendships grew in the in-between moments, walking across campus in the cold, sharing meals and spending countless hours studying in the library and classrooms. With encouragement from my friends and guidance from my professors, I’ve grown into someone I am proud of. I have an internship related to my field, drawing on everything I had learned both inside and outside the classroom. What once felt like an uncertain beginning has turned into a meaningful direction, shaped by the people around me and the opportunities I had the courage to pursue.

My EPPIIC journey has been both challenging and deeply rewarding. I feel immense gratitude and joy. Graduation marks not only the completion of an academic program but the closing of a powerful chapter of growth, one shaped by learning, adaptation, perseverance and transformation.
My name is Adriana Prieto. I am 49 years old, a mother, an immigrant, a student and a healthcare professional. I came to the United States nine years ago, at the age of 40, with one main purpose: to give my son a better life and a better future. Before coming here, I practiced family medicine in Cuba for 17 years. Leaving behind my career, my country and my comfort zone was not easy, but it was one of the best decisions of my life.
This journey has taught me more than academic knowledge. It has taught me resilience when things felt overwhelming, flexibility when plans changed, and confidence in my ability to learn, grow and adapt. It reminded me that it is never too late to reinvent yourself and return to your purpose.
Millersville University gave me the opportunity to learn medicine in a new country, in a new language and from a new perspective supported by technology, innovation and exceptional faculty. Here, I was able to combine my previous experience with new knowledge, preparing me to serve patients with professionalism, compassion and humanity.
Earning this master’s degree means reclaiming my vocation as a healthcare provider and reaffirming my commitment to give back to the community that welcomed me. Because in the end, life is truly about receiving opportunities and giving back through service.
I am incredibly proud of this achievement, grateful for the support of the Millersville University community and honored to be a Marauder.

I came to Millersville in 2023 to start my master’s degree and have had a wonderful experience here. All of my professors I’ve had were super supportive, and I don’t think I would have been able to get through the program without them or the friends I have made. From being on Zoom for class when I was away on military orders to creating a club for my program, I have experienced nothing but kindness and community within my program. I would not change it for anything.

Millersville has profoundly shaped both my academic and vocational journeys, serving as a cornerstone of my personal and professional growth. As an immigrant, I faced the challenge of learning a new language, adapting to a new culture and rebuilding my life from the ground up. I took on any job necessary to support my family, often balancing long hours of work with my studies. These experiences were not easy, but they instilled in me a deep sense of perseverance, resilience and appreciation for every opportunity I was given.
Through it all, my core goal never changed: to return to medicine, to once again wear my white coat, and to provide compassionate, meaningful care to my patients. That dream kept me focused during the most difficult moments and reminded me why I started this journey in the first place. I am deeply grateful to Millersville University and Dr. Kuhns for believing in me and providing me with the opportunity to grow both academically and professionally. Their support, guidance and commitment to student success have made a lasting impact on my life. I am equally thankful to my wife and son, whose unwavering love, patience and encouragement gave me the strength to continue forward, even when the path seemed overwhelming. This achievement is not mine alone; it is a shared success that reflects our collective sacrifices and dedication. Because of Millersville’s program, my wife and I were able to pursue and achieve this dream together, which makes this accomplishment even more meaningful. Even after years of experience in family medicine and oncology, this program has reminded me that medicine is a lifelong journey of learning. It has deepened my understanding of holistic patient care, reinforcing the importance of treating not just diseases but the whole person, mind, body and spirit. I am truly honored and proud to call myself a Marauder. Millersville did more than educate me; it welcomed me, supported me and helped me rediscover my purpose. For that, I will always be grateful.

The challenges I faced as a student at Millersville all came together in unexpected ways to make this journey the most difficult step I’ve faced yet.
First, I left my family and home country of Pakistan to travel to the other side of the world for my MSW here at Millersville. That was just the start though. I took day and night classes while depending on rides from others to and from Hershey, often really late at night. I met my husband in my second year and even started a little family with baby Yusuf joining us soon after. My studies continued while I was a full-time mom, juggling motherhood with my classes and developing practical skills in my internship, seeing patients in the psychotherapy clinic.
Without the genuine care and unwavering support of my family and incredible mentors at Millersville, including Dr. Granruth, Dr. Rice and Dr. Girvin, I know that I would not be in the position I am today. With everything I have faced these past few years, I could not be more thrilled to be graduating with the MSW, Class of 2026!

As a first-generation college student, my journey at Millersville University has been defined by a desire to make the most of every opportunity and create a meaningful, memorable experience. Coming into college, I knew I wanted to push myself beyond my comfort zone, and that mindset shaped my involvement on campus.
Through the Honors College, I found not only academic challenge but also a strong sense of community. It was there that I built some of my closest friendships, which became an essential support system throughout my college experience. Wanting to further grow as a leader, I became involved in the Student Government Association. Taking a significant step outside of my comfort zone, I ran for vice president, and winning that role became one of the most transformative moments of my time at Millersville. It pushed me to develop confidence, strengthen my communication skills and advocate for my peers.
In addition, joining the Cygnus Society allowed me to continue challenging myself in new ways while connecting with other engaged student leaders. Each of these experiences contributed to my growth not only as a student but as an individual.
Overall, my time at Millersville has shaped me into a more well-rounded, confident and driven person. What began as a goal to succeed in college evolved into a journey of leadership, connection and self-discovery, and I am incredibly proud of it.

First, I would like to thank God from the beginning to the end for giving me courage and strength. I am deeply grateful to Millersville University for providing me with opportunities that became true turning points in my life.
I earned my bachelor’s degree in mathematics in 2003 from Haramaya University and taught at a college in Ethiopia until 2010. After moving to the United States in 2011, I worked in a warehouse before transitioning into human services, supporting individuals with intellectual disabilities. While I valued this work, I always carried a desire to continue my education to teach math.
My greatest inspiration came from my son, who was born in 2012 shortly after I arrived in the U.S. As he grew, he encouraged me by saying, “Dad, go back to school.” His words motivated me to pursue my academic dreams. I am also incredibly thankful to my wife, who worked tirelessly and took care of our family while I focused on my studies.
I would like to give special thanks to Dr. Washington and Dr. Moss for believing in me and giving me a graduate assistant position, even after I had been away from education for more than two decades. Their support meant so much to me.
Finally, I am truly grateful to all my professors for their invaluable guidance, encouragement and support throughout my journey.

My journey at Millersville University has been one of faith, resilience and perseverance. Today, I can proudly say that one of my greatest dreams is becoming a reality. When I came to this country from Cuba, already as a healthcare professional, I was told that continuing my education and practicing my profession again would be very difficult. I was told there would be too many barriers and too many obstacles in the way. But I chose not to give up.
With hard work, determination and trust in God, I kept moving forward. The journey was not easy. There were moments of doubt, exhaustion, sacrifice and uncertainty. Balancing graduate school, personal responsibilities and the demands of this program challenged me in many ways. Yet every challenge made me stronger and reminded me why I began this path in the first place.
As I look back, I see how much I have grown not only academically and professionally but also personally. Millersville University gave me the opportunity to believe in myself again and to continue pursuing the profession I love. It opened the door for me to move forward in healthcare and helped make it possible for me to graduate from the Family Nurse Practitioner program, something that once felt so far away.
I am deeply grateful to my professors, preceptors, classmates, family and everyone who supported me along the way. Their guidance, encouragement and belief in me gave me strength during the hardest moments. Today, I celebrate this milestone with humility, gratitude and pride. As a Hispanic woman who came from Cuba with hope and determination, I am proud to say that I have overcome barriers, achieved a dream, and continued the path toward the profession I feel called to serve.

My EPPIIC journey at Millersville University has shaped both who I am as a student and who I am becoming as a future professional. As a computer science major, I’ve always been drawn to working with hardware and logic-based programming because I enjoy understanding how things work at a low level.
Through school, I’ve taken the opportunity to push myself beyond just classroom learning. As a scholar in the STEM program, supported by the National Science Foundation, I’ve taken part in many monthly workshops that prepared me and other scholars with the tools needed to be successful after college. These activities showed us how to be successful financially, professionally and in other areas of life.
I’ve also made an effort to prepare myself for future careers by attending job fairs on campus and resume-building workshops. These helped me understand what employers are looking for and how I can better present my skills and experiences. My hard work paid off when I accepted my first internship as an IT intern. I was grateful for this internship because it allowed me to get a glimpse of the professional world and build skills and friendships outside of the classroom.
I have had many mentors support me throughout my journey at Millersville University. Many of my professors, along with my mother, who works as a secretary at Millersville, have consistently encouraged me to stay focused on my goals and pursue my dreams honestly and with purpose. Their support has helped me stay motivated and committed to growing both academically and personally.

M.Ed. School Counseling
My EPPIIC journey at Millersville University has been one of growth, reflection and learning to fully embrace my voice. As a first-generation Latina graduate student, I entered the M.Ed. program navigating spaces that were not always designed with my lived experiences in mind.
When I began this program, I thought I knew exactly who I was. What I didn’t realize was how much I still had to learn about myself. The classes we took and the experiences we shared challenged me in ways I never expected; they pushed me to think differently, reflect more deeply and grow into a version of myself that feels more authentic and grounded than ever before.
This journey also required a deep level of perseverance. I completed this program part time while working both a full-time job and a part-time job and advising two student organizations (Millersville Concerned Women and Society on Latino Affairs). There were many long days (and even longer nights) where I felt completely exhausted but still deeply fulfilled. I often joke that I was running on caffeine and determination, but in reality, I was sustained by purpose. I may have been tired, but my soul was always full.
One of the most meaningful parts of my journey has been recognizing that my lived experiences are not something to minimize, but something to lead with. I have grown in confidence, resilience and purpose. As I prepare to graduate, I carry with me not only the knowledge gained through this program but also a responsibility to continue advocating, creating space for others and using my voice to make a difference.
I also know that I did not do this alone. I am incredibly grateful for the friends who supported me along the way, those who showed up, checked in, and were there for every “crashout,” reminding me to keep going even when things felt overwhelming. As I prepare to walk across the stage, I know I will feel a deep sense of pride, not just in earning my degree but in who I have become. For the first time, I feel fully and unapologetically like myself.

My journey at Millersville University began in 2021 through the EPPIIC Pre-Scholars Program, which became the foundation of my college experience. Coming into Millersville, I carried both hope and uncertainty, trusting that God would guide me in the right direction. The EPPIIC program became that answered prayer. It provided me with a strong sense of community, structure and support that helped me find my footing during a major transition in my life.
From the beginning, Pre-Scholars connected me with mentors, resources and opportunities that played a crucial role in my academic and personal development. The staff consistently showed genuine care and commitment to my success, and their guidance helped me navigate challenges while building confidence in myself. Because of this support system, I never felt like I was going through my college journey alone.
When I first arrived at Millersville, I was a psychology major with a minor in social work. However, through my experiences and the encouragement of those around me, I began to reflect more deeply on my passions and purpose. With guidance, I realized that social work aligned more closely with my values and desire to make a meaningful impact. This led me to transition fully into the field of social work, a decision that has shaped my future career path.
As I approach graduation, I am filled with gratitude for the Pre-Scholars program and the role it has played in my journey. It not only supported me academically but also helped me grow personally and professionally. The connections, lessons and experiences I gained through EPPIIC have carried me to this moment, and I will continue to carry them with me beyond Millersville.

While pursuing higher education at Millersville University, I have consistently embodied its six EPPIIC values: exploration, professionalism, public mission, inclusion, integrity and compassion. Since my admission in 2022, I have actively engaged in campus life to strengthen my sense of belonging and grow personally. I attended club meetings, joined the Social Advocacy Living-Learning Community and built meaningful connections. These experiences allowed me to explore my identity while gaining a deeper understanding of the opportunities available at Millersville. Throughout my involvement, I maintained professionalism to positively represent the student body and open doors to enriching experiences.
During my junior and senior years, I was honored to serve as president of the Alliance for Social Change, a student-led organization dedicated to raising awareness of social injustices. Through interactive programming and dialogue, we encouraged civic engagement and promoted systemic change, aligning with Millersville’s public mission. Our events were inclusive of both online and in-person students across all majors, fostering a welcoming environment that centered diverse perspectives and amplified marginalized voices.
Recently, I served as a mentor for FYEX 100: Be the Change! Social Justice. In this role, I connected first-year students to campus resources, facilitated life skills workshops and guided them in navigating University systems. As a mentor, I prioritized integrity by upholding high ethical standards aligned with the NASW Code of Ethics. Recognizing the diverse backgrounds of students, I approached each interaction with empathy and compassion, meeting individuals where they were at. As I prepare to graduate, I remain committed to carrying the EPPIIC values forward in both my personal and professional journey.

When I first started at Millersville University, I had NO single friend (not even a known person) that was going to Millersville. I came to Millersville with an open mind and with no expectations, because I wanted to experience the actual Millersville by myself. Before I started my classes, I had met some faculty and administrators for admission purposes, but the real Millersville experience started once the classes started for the fall of 2022.
Throughout my first semester, I was still figuring out the buildings around campus, curious about new things I would explore every other day and so forth. Soon I figured out the academic pattern, and I then started exploring the professional and leadership opportunities. The same semester, I interviewed for a student employee position and was hired immediately (and had to write emails to four other departments that I have accepted a student employee offer at the financial aid office). After 3.5 years at OFA, I feel like I want to be a permanent part of this office. Then comes the leadership roles that I have always enjoyed, either as a president of multiple student clubs or as the current president of the Identity-Based Organization Council (IBOC). Not only that, the opportunity to be part of the SSTP program, orientation leader, and various opportunities at the International Programs and Services office that I had the honor of being part of motivate me to give back to the community that gave me the platform to thrive. During my time at Millersville, I have always enjoyed the resources and opportunities that Millersville offers to students, and the energy, resources and manpower Millersville utilizes to actually deliver EPPIIC values to every student. Over time, I had the honor to learn about President Wubah and his administration’s commitment to welcome all kinds of students here at Millersville.

As a daughter of first-generation Vietnamese immigrants, I have witnessed my parents’ hardships to guide me to where I am now. They persevered through tireless shifts while still making time to be present in my life. They have supported my siblings and me through college, despite never having gone through the college process themselves. When I first came to Millersville, it felt like new territory with many unknowns.
I was unsure about what financial aid looked like or how to register for my classes, but the support of my family, friends, professors and mentors encouraged me to succeed as I pursued my degree. My professors were constantly opening up new doors in ways I never dreamed of. My mentors from my placements steadily guided me in developing the toolbox that I will carry forward into my career as an elementary teacher. While it was a challenging route, it has lit a flame, inspiring me to be a role model for my future students who may be following a similar journey. I hope to guide my prospective families through the challenges and joys of the education system, translating the jargon and complexities in a way that allows parents to be active and supportive participants in their child’s journey.

My EPPIIC journey at Millersville has been defined by growth, community and a clearer understanding of the kind of professional and person I want to become. Entering the University as a computer science major, I thought I knew exactly what I wanted, but by my second semester I realized I wasn’t happy and needed a change. Switching to Information Technology ended up being one of the best decisions I made here.
It opened up new possibilities for my career and allowed me to take classes I genuinely enjoyed. At the same time, working in the Lombardo College of Business helped me build strong connections with staff and faculty who supported my development. Combining that experience with my IT coursework prepared me for an internship the summer before my senior year, where I saw firsthand how the skills and lessons I gained at Millersville could be applied in real workplaces and different professional settings.
Through all of these experiences, I’ve grown not just academically but personally. I learned how to communicate better, advocate for myself and carry myself with confidence in professional settings. Working as an office assistant here has taught me the importance of showing up prepared, being reliable and treating people with respect, and helped with bettering my communication skills. I also learned how to navigate change, manage heavy workloads and stay grounded during stressful semesters. The connections I made and the opportunities I took helped me understand the kind of environment I thrive in and the type of impact I want to make after graduation. Looking back, my time at Millersville pushed me to step into new spaces, trust my abilities and become more intentional about my goals and the person I’m becoming.

My journey here at Millersville University has had its ups and downs, but each experience has been influential in my growth. I have learned to be more confident, ambitious, persevering and well-rounded. I have found my way to friends that support me and make me proud of who I am as a Hmong woman reforming my culture and inspiring other women to dream big and achieve more. Many of my professors, who are inspiring women, have been powerful role models for me.
With their support and counsel, I have had many opportunities to further my personal and professional development, shaping me into a person fit to becoming a physician that makes a difference. I have been able to make a difference through volunteer work, mentoring and tutoring, which is a value of mine. Additionally, I have experienced the positive impact of the value of diversity and inclusion here at Millersville, as it has led me to find my place in a diverse community of people who support me socially and academically. Millersville University has brought me meaningful experiences that encouraged my curiosity to learn and strengthened my leadership skills. It has also helped me make meaningful contributions to my community, be the representation I wish to see in the world, encourage ethical communication, and foster empathetic capacity to make a positive impact. Throughout my time at Millersville, I have learned much about myself and the world around me. With all that I have learned and the skills that I have acquired, I hope to contribute in the making of a more productive world through providing comprehensive care as a future physician.

B.S. Allied Health Technology – Sports Medicine
My journey at Millersville University has been shaped in ways I never expected. I started hoping to find a place where I could grow – and instead, I found a place that helped me move toward and reach my aspirations. The EPPIIC values of Exploration, Public Mission and Compassion influenced my experience and became part of my path as I prepare for a future in medicine.
Exploration defined some of my most transformative experiences here. Research in the biology department and clinical experiences didn’t just strengthen my academic interests; they further affirmed my passion and goals in the medical world. The mentorship I received helped me see a future in medicine that four years ago felt distant. Working in the International Office allowed me to connect with students from all over the world, each with their own background. Supporting them helped me not just relate to others from diverse cultures but also grow and learn more from others’ perspectives.
Millersville’s Public Mission has further influenced my desire to give back and make a difference. Through campus involvement and exposure to healthcare-related opportunities, I realized how education can be a tool for change. Every experience, from mentorship to hands-on learning, reinforced my commitment to pursue medicine as a way to uplift others and make a meaningful impact.
Compassion has always been the lens through which I see the world, whether it was supporting classmates through our challenging courses, helping and caring for those around me, or creating a safe space for others to feel understood. These moments reminded me why I’m drawn to medicine: the chance to be present for people when they need it most.
Looking back, my EPPIIC journey has been a collection of experiences that created a path of growth and self-discovery, strengthening my passion towards a career in medicine.

My EPPIIC journey at Millersville was one of courage and renewal. After graduating high school in 2020, I was put out into the world during COVID-19 and began my University experience completely online at home. I had the opportunity to study abroad in Madrid in 2021 but fell deeply ill during my travels and had to return home. After recuperating and reevaluating, I obtained my associate degree at community college and then came to Millersville to give myself a second chance at my meteorology studies.
I couldn’t have asked for a better experience and community, and I am so grateful that I gave my studies a second chance after such an unfortunate first time. During my two years here, I have made many friends, made connections with my professors in the meteorology department and professionals/Millersville alumni, and had memories that I will cherish forever. I was able to obtain an internship, participate in extracurricular activities in the meteorology department and attend the 105th American Meteorological Society Annual Meeting in New Orleans, all of which will help me stand out as I begin my career search.

B.S. Meteorology
Coming out of Covid was a difficult time, with many gaps in my life caused by the pandemic. Upon attending Millersville, I met numerous outstanding people, professors and friends who helped fill those gaps. I was able to quickly adapt to college while also gaining an enriched experience. I learned what it takes to succeed: meeting with my professors, spending time studying difficult problems, and knowing when to treat myself.
While here, I was able to participate in many activities, including Women in STEM, Board Game club, Outdoors club, and AMS, among others. There were also multiple exciting trips related to my major that further sparked my interest and helped develop my professional skills. These included attending the 105th annual AMS, visiting the NCEP office in College Park, and touring both the AccuWeather and NWS offices in State College.

B.S. Computer Science | Minor in Japanese Culture Studies
I started at Millersville a lot differently than how I ended up now. I was a lot more timid and shy, but I was really into computer science. As I continued with the computer science degree, I was offered more and more opportunities to challenge my comfort. I was selected to be a CS tutor by the faculty, which helped me interact more with of my classmates and get more social. I was able to meet some amazing friends that helped push me, do more and improve my health. I’m super grateful for all of them and love them dearly.
I am also very grateful for the computer science faculty for giving me even more opportunities that helped push me even more over my final years. I have been able to do research on quantum computing with a professor, participate in coding competitions and help Millersville place high in them, and expand my technical skills to a vast degree. The club opportunities at Millersville allowed me to meet an amazing group of friends that helped me be more comfortable with my self-expression. I couldn’t ask for a better group of friends. Also, I took the beginner Japanese course because I was interested in the language and didn’t expect too much to come out of it. But after a few months into the class, I decided to declare my minor in Japanese culture studies to continue learning the language and improving my speaking skills. Over the two years that I’ve been practicing my skills, I can understand and speak Japanese pretty decently, and I’m even more determined to continue to practice after I graduate. Overall, I thank all the amazing people, faculty and students that I’ve met at Millersville, for I wouldn’t be where I am without them.

B.A. Social Work | Minor in Criminology
My journey at Millersville University as a social work major with a minor in criminology has been rooted in a deep commitment to helping others and advocating for justice. From the beginning, I have been driven by a desire to understand the challenges individuals face within both social systems and the criminal justice system, and to be part of meaningful change.
Throughout my time at Millersville, I have developed and demonstrated the core EPPIIC values through my academic and personal experiences. In my coursework, I have strengthened my empathy and professionalism by learning how to support individuals from diverse backgrounds while maintaining ethical standards. My studies in criminology have expanded my awareness of systemic issues, reinforcing the importance of integrity and inclusion in the work I hope to pursue. These experiences have not only shaped my perspective but have also prepared me to approach real-world situations with compassion and critical thinking.
I would not have been able to complete this journey without the support and guidance I have received along the way. My faith in God has been a source of strength and perseverance, while my parents, family and the relationships I have built with professors and peers have continuously encouraged and motivated me to grow.
As I move forward, I am committed to applying the values and knowledge I have gained to make a positive impact in the lives of others. My time at Millersville has prepared me to serve with purpose, advocate for change and continue learning.

B.S. Chemistry | Environmental Chemistry option
Since becoming a Millersville student, I’ve held 2-4 jobs at a time, whether it be on or off campus. When I decided to switch my major to chemistry at the end of my second year, I knew I would face different challenges, especially with working multiple jobs in an intensive major. I lost my housing during this switch as well, which increased the pressure not only to work but to continue to stay in school.
Support from my professors and financial aid officers with, their endless compassion and understanding, has helped me to achieve things I could’ve only dreamed of, such as presenting multiple research projects at various national and international conferences, being an executive board officer for the Millersville Women’s Rugby team and a fourth-year resident assistant, and becoming president of the American Chemical Society Millersville student chapter, all while navigating my way through University as a first-generation college student. My professors have pushed and encouraged me to excel beyond what I ever thought I was capable of. The faculty and my peers in the chemistry department have helped me redefine my passion for science and uplift the importance of community.
