Special Education Minor

The Special Education minor at Millersville University is an 18-credit program designed to provide students with foundational knowledge and applied skills for working with individuals with disabilities across educational settings. The minor includes one required introductory course – Orientation to Special Education – and 15 additional credits selected from a range of specialized electives.

Learning Objectives

Explain key special education laws, policies and foundations.

  1. Apply inclusive and differentiated instructional practices for diverse learners.
  2. Use assessment data to guide instruction and monitor progress.
  3. Implement behavior supports and assistive technology to improve access and outcomes.
  4. Collaborate professionally and apply skills in real-world/field settings, including transition planning.

Coursework

Coursework covers inclusive practices, behavior management, assessment, assistive technology, early intervention, transition planning, and instruction for diverse learners. Many courses include field experiences with required clearances, offering hands-on application.

The flexible, interdisciplinary program supports students from various majors – especially human services – by strengthening inclusive practices and responsiveness to diverse learning needs.
