Millersville’s geographic reach is ever expanding and we welcome alumni volunteers everywhere to help build the global Millersville network! Alumni volunteers are the foundation of the University. The Office of Advancement wants to mobilize alumni in certain geographic areas and provide a great way to connect alumni, parents, students and friends worldwide in the name of Millersville University. Hard working volunteers - along with guidance from Advancement staff – will plan and implement purposeful and meaningful events and programming areas outside of Millersville.

How to become a regional network Volunteer
Regional Marauder PRIDE Network Volunteer Experiences
Assistance from the University’s Advancement staff is determined by the alumni population in a region and activity being proposed. We will do our best to accommodate alumni groups of any size in any region for the purpose of alumni engagement and support of Millersville University and its mission.
All alumni share common characteristics and goals.
As the Regional Marauder PRIDE Network is a newer initiative for Millersville University, we ask for alumni volunteers to share ideas for programming in your area and then work closely with the staff representative from the Advancement staff.
What the Advancement team provides:
- A staff liaison will assist you with aspects of programming
- Online registration and other ways to collect RSVPs and payments (if applicable)
What Regional Network Volunteers provide:
- Time, talent, energy and enthusiasm on planning and executing events/gatherings or other programs
- Knowledge and insight specific to one’s area
Finances and Budget
Regional Marauder PRIDE Network events need to be conducted on a minimum cost recovery basis. Cost recovery means charging a price which is no greater than the cost of actually running the event.
The following should be taken into consideration when planning events:
- Printing, postage and design of mailing pieces
- Cost of reserving the facility
- Speaker honorariums, travel and accommodations
- Audio/visual costs
- Food costs
- Gratuity and service fees
- Bar charges (FYI: cash bar is the best way to go)
- Catering costs
- Cancellation fees and deposits
- All applicable taxes and gratuities
There may be alumni and businesses willing to help defray the costs, donate services or even provide meeting or event space at no cost and these options should be explored whenever possible. Underwriters or contributors, determined in concert with the university, should be obtained in a time-frame that allows for recognition in materials, and when appropriate, will receive soft credit or credit for their in-kind donation. Not all services qualify for in-kind donation credit and this should always be discussed first with a representative from the Advancement Office.

Tips to Host an Event
Suggested tips on How to host a Regional Marauder PRIDE Network Event
Expected attendance at events will vary based on the activity.
Three months before each event:
- Provide Advancement staff with final details for event publicity and information for registration
- Work with Advancement staff to make arrangements for volunteer hosts, food and drinks, audio/visual equipment, parking, set-up and clean-up
Four weeks before each event:
- Encourage attendance of local alumni via personal phone calls, emails, and social media
- Request name tags and giveaways from the alumni engagement office
Two weeks prior to each event:
- Finalize and confirm all arrangements
Day of event:
- Arrive 60 minutes early to check-in with venue staff and prepare for the event
- Work with vendors to make sure all needs have been met
- Set up welcome / information table:
- Sign or banners
- RSVP list
- Name tags
- Millersville literature
- Sign in sheet
- Business card bowl
- MU promotional item
A - Athletics, Authors, Art, Actors, Aquariums and Alumni hosted events at homes
