Masking my Happiness

Name: Hardy, Liza
Advisor: McDonah, Becky
Department: Art
Award: Student Research Grant
Abstract: This project will focus on creating metal masks from precious metal clay. This will be a new technique for me to learn and research, as it is not a current option in our curriculum. I will shape this clay into two masks that represent two different emotions. One is the forced version of happiness that I feel the need to put on as a mask to make others feel comfortable. The other will be my version of happiness that I truly feel. As a society, we are often told to confine our emotions in order to fit in. This project is meant to help highlight how damaging that can be.
