Federal SEOG Grant
Disclaimer: If you are interested in receiving a federal grant, your first step is completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). You will need to complete the FAFSA every year you plan to be enrolled, as it determines your financial need and eligibility for grants.
The Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (FSEOG) is intended to provide additional support to students who are considered to have exceptional financial need.
- Exclusively for undergraduate students pursuing their first bachelor's degree.
- Automatically awarded on a first-come, first-served basis to students with the highest amount of financial need.
- Priority is given to students who are eligible to receive a Federal Pell Grant, however, not all eligible students will receive FSEOG due to the availability of funds.
- The maximum yearly award at Millersville University is $2000.
- Typically, grants do not need to be repaid.

what determines financial need?
Financial need is determined by a university's Cost of Attendance (COA) minus the Student Aid Index (SAI), which is calculated from information provided on the FAFSA.
COA – SAI = Financial Need
- Your SAI is calculated from the income, asset, tax, and demographic information provided on your FAFSA.
- A university's COA is determined by direct charges and indirect expenses you may incur while you are enrolled. This includes tuition, fees, housing, food, transportation, personal expenses, as well as books and supplies. The COA is not the amount you will owe to Millersville. Every student will be charged tuition and fees, and students living in the residence halls will be charged housing and a meal plan.
