Teamwork is essential for orientation leaders because it ensures a smooth and welcoming experience for new students. Orientation involves multiple tasks—such as guiding groups, answering questions, and managing events—that require collaboration and clear communication among OLs. By working together, OLs can share responsibilities, support one another during busy moments, and create a positive, inclusive environment.

Join other interested students in completing a series of team-centered tasks and puzzles. Discuss the responsibililities and benefits of being an Orienation Leader with members of the Orientation Planning Committee while enjoying some light refreshments.

Institutional knowledge is crucial for Orientation Leaders because it enables them to confidently guide new students and answer questions accurately. Understanding the university’s policies, resources, traditions, and support systems helps OLs provide reliable information and foster trust. By being well-informed, OLs model competence and professionalism, creating a positive first impression of Millersville University.

Test your institutional knowledge as you and other interested students attempt to free Skullonious D. Bird (AKA Skully) from a time warp. Travle through MU history, solving puzzles which will free Skully from the warp. Serving as an Orientation Leader offers valuable opportunities for personal growth, including the development of leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills. OLs learn to work effectively with diverse groups, manage responsibilities under pressure, and adapt to unexpected challenges—all of which build confidence and resilience. The role also fosters empathy and teamwork, as OLs support new students during a critical transition. These experiences not only enhance professional readiness but also contribute to personal maturity and a stronger sense of community.

Contribute to growth by painting a flower pot and replanting a succulent for your room, home or apartment. Discuss the responsibililities and benefits of being an Orienation Leader with members of the Orientation Planning Committee while enjoying some light refreshments.

Serving others is at the heart of being an Orientation Leader because OLs have the chance to make a real difference in someone’s life. Every smile, every question answered, and every moment of support helps new students feel welcome and confident as they begin their MU career. By putting others first, OLs become a source of encouragement and guidance during one of the most exciting—and sometimes overwhelming—times in new students' lives. This commitment to service not only shapes their experience but also transforms OLs into stronger, more empathetic leaders ready to serve in the broader community.

Demonstrate your caring for others by participating in a "positivity note-writing" activity. Doing so will take just a few minutes and will mean so much to those receiving your note. You can also ask questions about the Orientation Leader position and gain insight into how you can apply to serve in that role.
