About the Exhibition ...
CADAVERS is a body of work by Julia Smith exploring the odd, the underappreciated, and the bittersweet. Smith’s work focuses on grotesque themes, often featuring unsightly subjects such as flesh, decay, and medical oddities. Diagnosed with OCD in 2021, Smith uses these concepts to convey the effects and anxieties associated with her diagnosis. Other conceptual interests for Smith include memories, mortality, and how the passage of time relates and interacts with these themes.
About the Artist ...
Julia Smith is a painter based in both Lancaster and Montgomery counties of Pennsylvania, who primarily works with acrylic paint. She plans to graduate with a Bachelor of Fine Arts, with a concentration in painting, in December 2026. Her art has been exhibited in the 16th, 17th, and 18th Annual Student Juried Exhibitions, all held in the Sykes Gallery at Millersville University, along with a group exhibition consisting of Millersville seniors titled Dès Vu in 2025. She was awarded the Robert Andriulli Scholarship for Excellence in Painting in 2024.
