About the Exhibition ...
Living allegories is a collection of works consisting of various media, the majority being ceramics. McMahon explores symbolism as a means of depicting deeper meaning. Animal imagery functions as the main symbolic language through this body of work, the hare being a main symbol. Hares have been viewed as good omens; they symbolize good luck, prosperity, and abundance. McMahon draws from traditions of fables and folklore, using animals as metaphoric figures to convey lessons such as growth, transformation, vulnerability, and resilience. The ceramic vessels are not only meant to be viewed but valued and used in everyday life. The surface decoration functions as a visual language, unfolding meaning slowly through observation and repeated use. McMahon strives to not just have the vessels act as visual artifacts but become companions in routine moments and quiet presences that invite reflection and emotional connection. Living Allegories collapses the distance between art and everyday life, allowing personal rituals to become sites of contemplation.
