About the Exhibition ...

The Observe-ivore is a colorful collection of two main investigations, history and self-reflection. The exhibition is a response to the digestion of both areas simultaneously, much like the Omnivore being a creature that consumes the diet of the Herbivore and Carnivore. The Observe-ivore is a physical documentation of these reflections, often taking the form of something other than human to explain something about humans.

About the Artist ...

Working mainly in ceramics and colored pencils, Rachel’s exploration centers around her personal experiences as a third-generation Puerto Rican. These lessons and memories are manifested in animal forms, often making difficult subjects easier to discuss. Her goal is to create something humorously disarming while observing different art periods through a contemporary perspective. By pulling from ancient folklore and religions, a bond is created to history, filling in some of Rachel’s missing lineage. Rachel creates to claim her own space and to have physical documentation of her life experiences.
