Our Earth and Space Science Education degree is designed for students who are passionate about scientific discovery and eager to inspire the next generation of learners. The program combines a strong foundation in the Earth sciences—including geology, meteorology, and ocean sciences—with early and meaningful classroom experiences. Students complete their Earth science coursework during their first three years, building deep content knowledge before immersing themselves in teaching during their senior year. Many students begin gaining classroom experience as early as their sophomore year, allowing them to develop their teaching skills alongside their scientific expertise. This unique structure prepares graduates to enter the profession as both knowledgeable Earth and space science specialists and confident, classroom-ready educators.
Education courses and student teaching experiences are offered in conjunction with the Department of Educational Foundations (Educational Foundations | Millersville University). Upon successful completion of the program and state certification exams, students will earn their Earth and Space Science teaching certification.

Our alumni are teaching in middle schools and high schools throughout the region and the United States. The closest being right next door at Penn Manor High School (Megan Hastings '23 pictured above) to across the Pacific in Hawaii.
Graduates are qualified to teach geology, oceanography, astronomy, meteorology, environmental science, and general science, providing them with the versatility to educate students across a wide range of scientific disciplines.
