Volunteer Opportunities for Students
Extra-curricular community service is something you do in addition to your academic coursework. You may complete community service through a student organization, fraternity or sorority, or club. You may enjoy helping others and want to volunteer in the local community on your own. Community service can also be a great way to get experience related to a career field you are exploring or to learn more about something totally different.
Use Handshake, our comprehensive career management platform, to find volunteer opportunities, make appointments with staff, and to register for job and volunteer fairs and other events.
You may also use Get Connected, United Way of Lancaster's searchable database of nonprofit organizations and their volunteer opportunities throughout Millersville and Lancaster.
Please NOTE: External third-party employment resources and externally-based community service/volunteer boards are not affiliated with Millersville University and are included because they may be of interest to members of the University community. Inclusion of any external resource does not indicate University sponsorship or endorsement of that resource, program, or activity. Please exercise caution when participating and report concerns to The Career Center.
Background Clearances Required
Many of our volunteer experiences have a high probability of working and having contact with children. In the state of Pennsylvania, all volunteers must have the following clearances:
Criminal Background Check (Act 34)
Child Abuse History Clearance (Act 151)
FBI Federal Criminal History-Fingerprinting (Act 114)
