Dr. Blum earned her Ph.D. and her M.S. degrees in mathematics from Virginia Tech and her B.S. degree in mathematics from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.  Her primary research area in mathematics is graph theory.  Her other research interests include combinatorics and history of mathematics.   After earning her bachelor’s degree, she served in the Peace Corps, teaching math to seventh and eighth graders on the Caribbean island of Nevis.  After earning her masters’ degree, she joined the Peace Corps again and taught mathematics at a small college in the African country formerly known as Zaire.  After earning her doctorate, she taught for two years at Xavier University in Cincinnati, Ohio and three years at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, Virginia.  She retired in January, 2019, after teaching happily at Millersville University since August, 1988.
