Learn about the Master of Science in Clinical Psychology
The Master of Science program in Clinical Psychology program offers 42 and 60 credit options. The 42 credit option is suitable for entering a doctoral program after graduation. The 60 credit option meets the educational requirements in the Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) PA regulations and is recommended if you wish to become licensed.

- In the Clinical program professional competence is seen as a function of personal growth and the development of good interpersonal communication skills combined with a strong knowledge base in psychological assessment and effective interventions with growing emphasis on empirically-supported treatments.
- Our goal is to produce professionally competent master’s level practitioners with a solid skill set and an ethically and multi-culturally informed approach to psychological practice who are flexible enough to work as direct service providers in a wide range of inpatient and outpatient public and private mental health settings.

Application Deadline
January 15th for fall admission, June 1st on a space available basis for those who have missed the January deadline (fall). October 1st for spring admission.
Admission Requirements
Degree Requirements. Student must have completed an undergraduate degree (BA or BS) prior to matriculating into the graduate program in Clinical Psychology at Millersville. The degree does not have to be in Psychology; however, all students must have a minimum of 18 credits in Psychology as specified below.
Required coursework
The following courses are expected (with a grade of B or higher):
- General/Introductory Psychology
- Developmental Psychology
- Abnormal Psychology
- Research/Statistical Design
- Two additional electives (such as Social Psychology, Counseling Strategies, Industrial Organizational Psychology, Applied Behavior Analysis, or any other psychology elective)
If an applicant has not completed any coursework in Psychology, they can apply to our 18 credit post baccalaureate program which offers the required prerequisite psychology coursework. If the applicant has some of the required courses, the remaining requirements should be take at Millersville or a local college/community college near your residence) prior to applying.
Official transcript/s from all colleges attended
Three letters of recommendation: Applicants must submit three letters of recommendation, ideally from professors who can speak to their academic potential. Letters from supervisors of related clinical work may be accepted, however, letters from family and friends and unrelated work experiences are not acceptable.
Personal Statement: Applicants must submit an autobiographical sketch indicating how their desire for advanced training in psychology/counseling developed, relevant clinical and/or research experiences and training, future goals, and how our program will help them attain their goals. There is no page limit but it is expected that the statement will be a minimum of one page.
Graduate Record Examination (GRE) Scores: GRE scores are required for applicants with lower than a 3.0 GPA, with minimum scores of 148 (Verbal), 147 (Quantitative), 3.5 (Analytical Writing). Submission of GRE scores is optional for all other applicants.
Relevant Clinical Experience: Highly qualified applicants will have experience in the field (internships, summer or volunteer work, or jobs).
Interview: After the initial review of applications, highly qualified applicants will be invited to complete an interview with program staff over zoom.

Outline your entire program of study with your advisor. Decide early on the 42 or 60 credit options.
Read the LPC law. Keep a copy.
Get a hard copy of the graduate catalogue EVERY year. It is updated annually and contains all policies, program and course descriptions in effect during your matriculation. It may be useful in addressing questions from the State Board’s transcript reviewers when you apply for licensure.
Save ALL course syllabi. Licensing boards may request these to determine if educational requirements were met by a particular course.
Get OFFICIAL copies of your transcript after graduation. Employers and licensing boards require official transcripts. Check for accuracy and the date of actual M.S. degree conferral.
Keep a file of all graduate work/info. Documenting your education, training, and experience is essential for getting and keeping licensure and for subsequent employment. You should keep this information indefinitely.
