Before being allowed to enroll in a new chemistry course, chemistry majors must have achieved a
grade of C or better (C- is not acceptable) in 100 and 200-level prerequisite chemistry courses. The
diagram below includes all prerequisite grades for the chemistry courses sequence into the junior
year.
Chemistry,Mathematics, and Physics courses required of all chemistry majors.
Pre-requisites and minimum grades required.
First MATH course is determined by the results on the MATH placement test.
First CHEM course is determined by the results on the CHEM placement test.

Flowchart of a portion of the Millersville Chemistry major curriculum with prerequisite pathways. Each course is shown as a color-coded box labeled with course number, title, and term(s) offered. For each course, it is indicated when the course is offered (f = fall, s = spring, m = summer) and minimum grade required (typically C- unless noted).
The sequence begins with CHEM 110 (Foundations of Chemistry, f.m), which leads to CHEM 111 (Intro Chem I, f.s.m, C) and then CHEM 112 (Intro Chem II, f.s.m, C). From there, one path continues to CHEM 231 (Organic I, f.s.m, C) → CHEM 232 (Organic II, f.s.m, C) → CHEM 326 (Biochemistry, f.s.m). Another path goes from CHEM 112 to CHEM 265 (Quantitative Chemistry, s.m, C) → CHEM 341 (Physical I, f, D) → CHEM 342 (Physical II, s). CHEM 251 (Inorganic I, s) is also available after CHEM 111 and must be taken concurrently with CHEM 112.
Another pathway highlights the MATH course and includes MATH 101 (Algebra, f.s.m, C-) → MATH 160 (Pre-calculus, f.s.m, C-) → MATH 161 (Calculus I, f.s.m, C-) → MATH 211 (Calculus II, f.s.m, C-) → MATH 311 (Calculus III, f.s.m, C-). Physics courses can start after MATH 161: PHYS 231 (Physics I, Calculus-based, f.s.m, C-) and PHYS 232 (Physics II, f.s.m, C-). PHYS 232 may be taken concurrently with MATH 211.
ENGL 110 (English Composition, f.s.m, C-) appears as a separate required course before taking CHEM 341.
In the image, there are arrows that indicate prerequisite relationships, with solid lines for prerequisites and dashed lines for corequisites. A legend explains that f = fall, s = spring, and m = summer.
