Chemistry Placement Test

Chemistry Placement Test

WHO NEEDS TO TAKE THE CHEMISTRY PLACEMENT TEST?

  • Majors in Chemistry, Biology, Earth Sciences, Physics, MDLV, OR a PREMED in another major
    • The only students who are exempt from this assessment are those who received AP/IB credit for CHEM 111 or who have received college transfer credit for a university approved equivalent CHEM 111 course.
  • If your major requires CHEM 111 or if you plan to take CHEM 111, you must have taken the Chemistry Placement Assessment prior to enrolling in your first CHEM course.

CHEMISTRY PLACEMENT PROCESS

  • Your Chemistry Placement Test score will determine if you are prepared to begin your chemistry study in CHEM 111 or if you should complete CHEM 110 first as preparation.
  • Students placed into CHEM 110 must earn a grade of C- or higher to enroll in CHEM 111.
  • Students placed into CHEM 111 must still meet the Math Placement requirement: placement into CHEM 160 or higher or completion of MATH 101 with a C- or higher.

CHEMISTRY TESTING PROCESS

  • The Chemistry Placement Test will be offered in D2L as a quiz by arrangement with the Chemistry Department.
  • You will need a pencil, blank paper, and a way to upload your work (scan or photo) into D2L.
  • CALCULATORS ARE NOT ALLOWED TO BE USED DURING THE TEST.
  • Download the Periodic Table prior to beginning the test to use.
  • The test is multiple choice, and you will have 30 minutes to work on it.
  • Following the test you will be prompted to upload your work done on paper.
