Cyber Defense Organization

About the Team

The Cyber Defense Organization meets throughout the academic year, and competes annually in the Collegiate Cyber Defense Competition (CCDC), Capture the Flag events, NCL, and other cybersecurity competitions. During CCDC, they ask student teams to assume administrative and protective duties for a network configuration designed to emulate a small company. The configurations typically include 7 to 10 servers and common Internet services. A volunteer red team attempts to hack the configuration while the teams match their defensive skills against this threat. Teams are scored on their ability to detect and respond to outside threats, maintain services, and perform urgent business requests.

The MU Cyber Defense Team competes in the Mid-Atlantic qualifying region. The team has had quite a bit of success, qualifying for nationals at least three times. Teams that qualify for nationals win a trip to San Antonio to compete live against all of the other qualifying teams.

CDO often meets in either Roddy 136, their room in Adams House, or in Boyer 231 during Common Hour on Tuesdays.
