What is Single Reed Symposium?
The 21st annual Millersville University Single Reed Symposium will take place on Saturday, March 28, 2026, at the Winter Visual & Performing Arts Center, Tell School of Music, Millersville University.
Founded by Dr. Christy Banks in 2006, the Millersville University Single Reed Symposium (MUSRS) is an annual one-day festival celebrating all things clarinet and saxophone. Each spring, we welcome to our campus students, amateurs, hobbyists, and all other lovers of the clarinet and saxophone. Participants spend the day making music together in our festival choirs, learning together in clinics and masterclasses, and enjoy performances by amazing guest artists. An important regional festival, MUSRS has drawn participants from New York, Delaware, West Virginia, Maryland, and New Jersey in addition to Pennsylvania.
Our list of over 40 past guest artists reads like a veritable “who’s who” of the clarinet and saxophone world, including: James Campbell, Michelle Gingras, Frank Griffith, Paul Haar, Julia Heinen, Frank Kowalsky, David Krakauer, Michael Lowenstern, Eric Mandat, Russ Peterson, Robert Spring, Chris Vadala, and Steve Wilson.
Tuition for MUSRS 2026 will be $30, and will include the following:
- Day of expert instruction
- Lunch
- T-shirt (register by Friday, March 20 to guarantee a t-shirt)
- Ticket to the evening Wind Ensemble/Concert Band concert at 7:30 pm -
