Set Sail (Act 101 Program)

This comprehensive program provides students with academic success initiatives designed to empower students through the development of essential scholastic and personal competencies. It is a state-funded initiative that awards funding to approved Pennsylvania postsecondary institutions to deliver services that support academically and financially qualified students in completing postsecondary studies.

PROGRAM FEATURES

Sponsored by the Pennsylvania Higher Education Assistance Agency (PHEAA), our program is strategically designed to:  

  • Facilitate a Seamless Transition: Support students as they navigate the shift from high school to the rigors of the Millersville University experience.  
  • Maintain Academic Excellence: Equip students with the tools and strategies necessary to achieve and sustain strong academic standing.  
  • Deliver Personalized Mentorship: Provide tailored academic support and holistic advising as students’ progress toward their baccalaureate degrees.  
  • Cultivate Lifelong Growth: Encourage students to embrace the value of persistence, hard work, and continuous learning within their chosen fields and beyond.  

 

The Act 101 Experience at Millersville University

The Act 101 program offers a holistic support network designed to bridge the gap between potential and degree completion. Our program provides:

  • Financial Wellness Education: Vital training in financial literacy to help students manage their resources effectively during and after college.  
  • Professional Coaching: One-on-one academic advising and coaching to keep students on the path to their goals.  
  • A Sense of "Ville" Pride: A supportive home base that ensures every student feels a deep sense of belonging and connection to the Millersville community.

    No, this program is completely voluntary.

  • How are students selected for this program?

    To participate, students must fill out a student agreement, and they must meet an economic requirement set by PHEAA.

  • Can I be dismissed from the program?

    Students in the Set Sail program follow the same requirements as any other students regarding academic probation and possible dismissal from the university. Those requirements can be found here.

  • Is there a required summer component?

    No, there is no summer component required to participate.

  • Am I required to live on campus?

    No, Students participating in the program are not required to live on campus.

  • Am I able to graduate in four years?

    Students participating in the Set Sail program, like all other students, can complete their full program of study in 4 years of fulltime study. A regular course load is 15 credits (5 classes) each fall and spring semester.
