John R. Wallace, Ph.D.

Dr. John R. Wallace is a Professor of Biology in the Department of Biology at Millersville University, Millersville, PA. Dr. Wallace is a medical entomologist who has received National and State (Pennsylvania and Maryland) funding to study the population dynamics of mosquitoes and other biting insects related to arthropod-borne disease vector ecology (such as West Nile virus and Buruli Ulcer) as they relate to the control and prevention of disease in urban and rural environments. Currently, his research interests focus on understanding the role of biting flies as a mechanism for transmission of Buruli Ulcer or perhaps dispersal of the mycobacterial organism, Mycobacterium ulcerans, which causes the disease. He earned his Ph.D. in Entomology with a specialization in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology at Michigan State University in 1997. In addition, Dr. Wallace is one of 15 Board Certified Forensic Entomologists in North America and a Diplomate with the American Board of Forensic Entomologists and a Fellow in the American Academy of Forensic Science. His research interests also extend into the field of forensic entomology, specifically how aquatic insects and plants such as algae can be utilized to estimate a post-mortem submersion interval. He is co-editor of the textbook, Wildlife Forensics: Methods and Applications.
