See our curriculum guide for the minor in Geospatial Applications.
Graduates of the Bachelor of Arts in Geography, Geospatial Applications option are well-positioned to gain immediate entry-level employment in government, industry, and non-profit organizations. According to Forbes, US World News, and the Bureau of Labor Statistics, GIS analysts and cartographers are among the fastest growing jobs in the United States. The public and private sectors are using geographic information systems (GIS) to accelerate scientific exploration and interpretation of data; and as such, geographers with extensive training in geography, geospatial technology, critical thinking, and communication are revolutionizing data analysis and decision-making. From analyzing crime patterns to predicting the next disease outbreak and from tracking deforestation to mapping utility networks, geographers are making a significant difference in the places in which we live.
The Department of Geography at Millersville University prepares students, first, to think creatively and critically about social and environmental problems as geographers, and secondly, to engage the science and methods of geospatial technology and applications for improved planning and response to social issues.

“Going into this internship, my knowledge of GIS was limited to what I had learned in class. However, after interning at Lancaster County GIS for 12 weeks, my GIS abilities have certainly improved. Everyone I worked with was very helpful and knowledgeable. This has been a valuable experience and one that I know will serve me well in the future with whatever I decide to pursue in the field of Geography.”
