Mock Interview/ Investor Pitch Presentation

Students can choose between a mock interview for a music industry position, of their choice, or a mock investor presentation for an original business idea. Each interview/ presentation will be no more than 15 minutes in length. Students will be graded based on the following criteria:

Professionalism: 5 Points. Students will show up during their scheduled time, act in a professional manner and dress appropriately. Remember, many businesses in the music industry are not as formal as traditional businesses. Do your research! If you are doing an investor presentation, dress for your audience of wealthy investors. Your presentation should allow at least 5 minutes for questions.

Materials: 20 Points. Students who wish to do a mock interview will need a resume and cover letter that are specific to the position they are applying to. Students are also expected to bring a demo reel of recording work/ original compositions or any work you have done that might be relevant to the position (a research paper, marketing plan, graphic design work, etc.) Students who wish to present a business plan should have an updated resume, short slideshow presentation explaining the business, and the Executive Summary of their business plan.

Elocution: 10 Points. Students will speak using proper formal grammar, pronunciation, and style. Students will use correct music industry terminology.

Narrative: 10 Points. Students will develop a narrative, personal story, to explain why they are the perfect candidate for the job or why an investor should give money to their business. The narrative should include personal reasons why the student is passionate about the position/the business, personal examples that explain how you have the qualities desired in an employee for the position/ or to make the business idea successful, and examples from your past experience that will help you succeed in the position/ running the business.
