Secondary Education Professional Development School (PDS)

Co-Teaching | Year long internships | Outstanding mentors

Millersville University’s Secondary Education Professional Development School (PDS)

Millersville University’s Secondary Education Professional Development School (PDS) is a partnership between many of the University’s secondary certification programs and local school districts. Participating certification programs include all sciences (biologychemistryearth science and physics), social studies, english and world languages, art, and technology and engineering.

The PDS is designed to simultaneously prepare new educators and strengthen the teaching and learning in area middle and high schools. Our teacher candidates (interns) learn the art and science of teaching by working alongside a master teacher (mentor) through a two-semester internship. Strong partnerships with local school districts enable our program to be grounded in the real work of teaching and learning. School administrators in local districts, across Pennsylvania, and in many states frequently report that PDS graduates interview for their first teaching positions like teachers who have already had a year of teaching experience.

The Secondary Education PDS Program at Millersville was awarded the National Program of Distinction Award in 2014 by the National Association of Professional Development Schools.
