Financial support to help build the workforce in PA.
The Grow Pennsylvania (Grow PA) Program, administered by the Pennsylvania Higher Education Assistance Agency (PHEAA), provides funding for in-state and out-of-state students pursuing approved majors that lead to in-demand careers in fields such as business, education, computer science, STEM, nursing, and more.
Is Grow PA Right for You?
Grow PA is for students in approved “in-demand” majors that lead to high-need careers in Pennsylvania. However, to keep this money as a scholarship or waiver, you must meet certain requirements; otherwise, everything you receive from Grow PA becomes a loan that you must pay back with interest.
Don’t Let Your Scholarship Become a Loan
Grow PA is a scholarship now, but it can turn into a loan you must pay back with interest if you do not meet the requirements below.
Your Work-in-PA Requirement
- After graduation, you must live and work in Pennsylvania in an approved in‑demand job.
- You must do this for an entire year and for every year, equal to the number of years you received Grow PA.
- If you do not meet this commitment, all the Grow PA money you received becomes a loan you must repay.
If You Change Your Major
- Grow PA only works for approved in‑demand majors.
- If you change to a non‑eligible major, you lose future Grow PA and all past Grow PA turns into a loan you must repay.
If you're undecided on your major or career path, carefully consider whether Grow PA aligns with your future plans, as it comes with specific post-graduation work obligations.
The Career Center at Millersville University offers career coaching and resources to help you explore majors and career paths that fit your skills, interests, and professional goals.
⚠️Before you accept Grow PA funding: make sure you are comfortable with your major and with living and working in Pennsylvania after you graduate.
Terms & Conditions of the GROW PA Grant & Scholarship Program
The Grow PA Grant remains a scholarship if the student meets the following criteria:
- Completes their degree in an eligible program of study
- Secures a job included on the approved list of in-demand jobs within a year after graduation
- Completes 1 year of qualifying employment in Pennsylvania as a Pennsylvania resident for every academic year (or the equivalent) during which the grant was received.
NOTE: The student should understand that if they do not complete their Grow PA-eligible degree program, their employment obligation will convert to a loan that must be repaid.
What is the work residency commitment after Graduation?
After graduation, you must commit to live and work in Pennsylvania within an in-demand occupation for a number of years equal to the number of years for which you received the grant. That means your total years of Grow PA Grant funding must equal your total years of qualifying employment in the state—up to 4 years.
